I have a lot of contacts that I have manually entered on the iPhone that are not in any PC-based app. If I try syncing with Yahoo or Outlook will the sync be bi-directional? That is, will my contacts that are on the iPhone but not the PC be synced to the PC?

As long as you're using a compatible version of Windows XP, outlook and the latest iTunes, it should work. Maybe try restarting your PC. There might be a conflict somewhere with another program running at startup or in the background.

For clarification, did you confirm that the sync is bidirectional? For example, say you had many of the same contacts on your iphone that you also had in your yahoo contacts AND you also had some contacts on your iphone that you didn't have in your yahoo contacts as well as some contacts in your yahoo contacts that you didn't have in your iphone. What would happen after you synced? Would both the iphone and the yahoo contacts have all the same contacts after the sync?
