Hi guys. In the past couple of days, my iPhone's touch screen has been acting increasingly strange. The problem is that there is a line of space towards the top of the screen that seems to be mapped wrong to the to the interface, or just nonfunctional completely! In most applications (such as the Notes application), whenever I touch in any spot below the top buttons bar (the one with the "done" "edit", and "notes" buttons on it), no input is registered! Also, if I touch on the space directly below one of the buttons on the top bar (in the supposed dead space), it will register the click on the button, even though my finger is clearly not on the button. To compound this weirdness, it doesn't seem as if this applies to the main application select screen as I have no problem clicking on the buttons for the calendar, SMS, camera, etc...

Does anybody know what the **** is going on with my phone? Anybody else had this problem? Anybody know of any potential fixes? I've tried updating to 1.01 and that didn't do anything. I even tried restoring the iPhone through iTunes but I've still got the same **** problem. This bug has made it very, very hard to use some applications and has actually severely crippled the phone's overall functionality.

I've been experiencing the same issue - tried restoring, software update, etc. etc...no luck. Anybody make any headway with this yet? I figure I'll just bring it by an Apple store and see what they can do for me...

I HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM. I TRIED IT ALL. I WAS ABLE TO MAKE IT DOWN TO A STORE LAST NIGHT TO FIND OUT THAT THE NEXT APPOINTMENT WOULDN'T BE AVAILABLE FOR 2 DAYS!!! BUT OF COURSE, THEY WERE ABLE TO SQUEEZE ME IN SINCE THEY ARE SO GOOD THERE. THEY TRIED RESTARTING AND RESTORING AGAIN BUT NOTHING CHANGED. SO THEY'RE SENDING IT IN FOR REPAIRS.

I WISH THEY WOULD JUST SWAP OUT THE PHONES LIKE THEY DID WITH IPODS THAT WAY I DON'T HAVE TO WAIT ANY LONGER BUT OH WELL. I'LL POST WHAT HAPPENS WITH MINE.

Same exact problem and so did at least one other guy while waiting in line @ genuis bar yesterday. Had to send in for repair and give me a loaner, which i was able to get 'waived this one time' the $29 fee, very dissapointing as it happened on a business trip and couldn't text reply, email, dial numbers that weren't in contacts, part of ipod functions, etc etc etc. They even asked if i have a another phone to use while it ships to repair?! What? How many people have a few phones sitting around for this?! How many people even paid early termination fees with other carriers to get att/iphone to be asked this less than 60 days after launch? Unaccepatble tactics apple i'm sorry being such a fan of their products.

You're pretty much in the same boat that I am...

Is your issue consistent? Mine isn't.

Sometimes the touch screen works, sometimes not.

I find it hard to believe that Apple won't just swap out the phone for a new one. That's weak. Even the "Champion of Customer Service (ha)" Cingular / AT&T will drop ship me a loaner phone before I send mine to them... (And it won't cost me $29, either.)

For once - it looks like Apple can learn something from Cingular...

Get a Blackberry. They make phones that actually work.

The big problem is that those of you with issues keep going to apple stores. They have a set protocole to follow and if it fixes by doing a reset or whatever, then that is all they are allowed to do.

The remedy is very simple and will work if you use the system and be patient. Call apple and open a repair ticket, ask for the loaner phone and pay the $29 loaner fee or try to get it waived. They will Fedex you the loader you do a transfer of sim/sync and send yours back.

At that point they do a diagnostic evaluation to determine if its fixable...if not you get a replacement phone...whala, problem fixed new phone on the way and you dont have to be frustrated anymore or make back and forth trips to get the same results.

When I did mine it was simple painless and now I have a super phone.

    Good Luck!

Ask a friend if you can use his blackberry to make a call since your iPhone can't make calls cause it doesn't work. Then call Apple, and get another phone. Then, perhaps after 2 months, borrow friends blackberry again to call Apple again.

Same issue here. I love the phone but find that I cannot at times use the bottom of the screen. I have tried to reset it several times, no-go. Hopefully this is not a HW issue. If so, the iPhone could go the way of the Treo......

Cmon' Alex...im being serious! My turn around took less then 48 hours, not two months...the phone hasn't been out that long.

Those that have issues keep going to the store and are met with the same results because of protocol. I am simply giving an alternative that worked for me.

Besides the other polled 85+% do not have problems and obviously do not post the good stuff here.

You do not have to knock suggestions just try and help so that we can help better the experience!

    Good Luck!
