Q: anyway to keep pwrbook awake while closed

Hey all,
I have searched but cant find away. I want to put my old 15" Powerbook to work in the corner as a server but I dont want the screen open all the time. is there a setting that will keep my powerbook working while the display is closed?

    closing display activates magnetic sleep switch; magnets are located inside the display assembly, as a guess, you could put some sort of a plastic shield over the top case.

    it may or may not work and possibly could cause some damage to the display, try at your own risk or better not.

    InsomniaX is a small utility that may do the trick. Note the warning, though, that it can cause heat buildup that is not good for your computer. If you decide to use it this way you may want to use some cooling mechanism.

    If you're just trying to keep the screen off, just adjust the energy saver settings in the sys preferences to make the display shut off after 1 minute of inactivity. Or, you could plug in (if you have one) an Apple video adapter (to VGA, for instance), and the computer would stay on even if you shut the cover completely.
