Sep 1, 2007 10:41 AM in response to dnr16by Sagesse,Ethernet ought to work. And the MacBook ought to autosense, so you shouldn't need a crossover cable. With file sharing woorking on both machines, have you tried using the MacBook to look at the 3400 hard drive AND using the 3400 to look at the MacBook? Sometimes one way works better than the other. -
Sep 2, 2007 6:05 AM in response to Sagesseby dnr16,Thanks for the advice. The ethernet worked once I'd reset the 3400's PRAM and rebuilt its desktop, so I suspect it was feeling moody.
Next question: what to do with a faithful working PB3400, with PCMCIA accessories such as a wireless card and USB adapter. It's like saying goodbye to an old VW Kombi which has gone places and hauled things nobody ever thought it could do, but alas it is slow these days and there is stuff I need nowadays that it can't do. What a lovely piece of Macintosh design it was. I'd like it to go to an appreciative home if one can be found (anyone reading this in Melbourne?) -

Sep 4, 2007 1:59 AM in response to John Meshelanyby dnr16,Melbourne, Victoria, I'm afraid. Think I might post a 'Free to Good Home' message in this forum once I'm sure I've got everything I need off the HD. -

Oct 10, 2007 7:41 AM in response to doctorbunsenby dnr16,Sorry for the delay - other things intervened. I'm in Brunswick. The 3400 has its original CD and FD readers & power adapter, and I'm adding in a carry-case, an Iomega USB CD burner, a Stylewriter 1200 (b/w only), a temperamental Canoscan D660U scanner, and the following PCMCIA cards: 56k modem, USB adapter, wireless card,& flash-card adapter. It would be good to know this set-up is going to an appreciative home.
