I recently purchased iWork '08 thinking it could replace Office for me. I can't even get it to print or create PDFs. The best I can do is export to Word format and use Word to print and create PDFs. I get two errors out of pages. "Error while printing" and selected pages out of range. Nothing else is having a problem. How do I fix this or at least get some genuine support out of Apple?

Mac Pro, Mac OS X (10.4.10)

I'll bet you have an HP printer. It's a long-standing problem between Apple applications & HP printers, specifically AppleWorks & Pages (any version of either) & HP printers. I'll also guess that you have numbered your pages starting with a number other than 1. Try putting the specific page numbers in the print dialog. For example, if you have a six-page document but the pages are numbered 11 to 16, an HP printer doesn't know what to do. Tell it to print pages 11 to 16 & it likely will work.

While I have an HP printer, I don't think this is the problem. I have a single page document. I can even create a brand new document with only the word "foo" in it and it still barfs. I appreciate the help.

    ddelong,
I had the same problem with my officejet d145 (dinosaur) and an iMac 24" with Pages '08, the printing - when it did work - was absolutely horrendous with the HP driver (7.3.1, dating back to May 05), especially color-rendering. I ended up going here:

    http://www.linux-foundation.org/en/OpenPrinting/MacOSX/hpijs

and picking up the alternative GIMP drivers (plus ancillary RIP and ESP Ghostscript sw), and now Pages will play nice with the HP (still not perfect, but a heckuva lot better.)

You can Export your document to PDF, Word, RTF, or Plain Text. File-Export

Just purchased the FULL version of iWork '08(Pages '08). Using a HP LaserJet 1022n connected through local network at work and just today, while printing a document, the 2nd page would not print correctly. Everything has been working just fine, then BLAAAM. I get these 1" black stripes going across the page, and some of the text is duplicated and jumbled. Installed the driver again with no luck. Had to re-type half of the document and then copy and paste into another new Pages doc. This worked for now. Hopefully this isn't an ongoing problem and Pages will "play nice" with this HP printer.

While Word export works, PDF export most certainly does not, and that's the one I care about.

Did it kill PDF export until you replaced the drivers as well?

    ddelong,
No, it didn't; in fact, one of my attempted work-arounds was to export to PDF and then print from Preview.........it failed to drive the HP as well....only when I went to the GIMP drivers did I get any semblance of a true document (and, while I'm at it, I did the same thing for my network connection to an HP 4050 laser printer, because it was taking ages to print a document from Pages '08........with the GIMP connection, it flew through them. (it has messed up my ability to OCR, since I don't have ImageZone anymore, but I print MUCH more often than I OCR).

I got the same problem. The solution for me was the following:
Start the "Printer Setup Utility.app", (Applications/Utilities)
From the main menu (where is the About, Hide ... Quit), select "*Reset Printing System*".
This _will DELETE all_ defined printers.
Setup again the printers and hopefully you will able print and/or saving PDFs again.

    cheers...
