an unknown error occorred (-54) What am I supposed to do now?

Every time I sync my 1.2.1 iPod video I get a message that says "Attempting to copy to the disk failed. An unknown error occurred (-54)" What I want to know is, what am I supposed to do about this! How do you fix an unknown error? I tried making it so that my iPod would not try to load any of the songs that it always says it can't, and for a glorious millisecond that seemed to work, but then it didn't any more. (T_T) I am not amused. What is with that (-54) thing? Is that my computers invisible hit points dropping? Does any one have any clue what is going on here?

Im getting the same error. Tried everything, including synch with other Ipods and no results. Have you found a solution?

Open the Script Editor in the /Applications/AppleScript/ folder and run the following:

tell application "Finder"
set locked of every item of entire contents of folder "Music:iTunes" of home to false
end tell

This issue is often due to a locked item in the iTunes library, which can be unlocked by running the script.

Did that work? I'm getting an unknown error even when restoring my 80gb, already repaired permissions. All my music is on an external drive, all plays fine in iTunes.

Is it locked in the finder or iTunes? I'm looking at the info tab in iTunes for a track and don't see a locked option.

Fantastic! I was getting this error trying to consolidate my iTunes library, and after changing the folder the script pointed to and ran the script the error went away.

Hello-

I have Panther Operating System and I tried running this scrip but I have never used that feature (new to mac) and I get it to work. It gives me errors about the "" and then it doesn't like the order of the sentence. Can you possibly right more step by step instructions for a total new user?
