In the Project Properties (where you set the Background Color) did you set the slider next to the color well to 100%
In a nutshell, if it is set to 0, it is trying to render an alpha but DV doesn't support alpha so you are just rendering black bg (and i assume black text).

Thank you for your quick and very helpful reply!!17 in Powerbook G4 1.67, Mac OS X (10.4.1)

I read your solution, but can't find that in FCS2. Here's a snapshot of my screen and I don't see the slider bar in the color well?

Currently Being ModeratedOct 17, 2007 2:39 AM (in response to Patrick Sheffield)This doesn't work. Same issue here on Motion 3.
Only workaround is export to animation to preserve alpha.
All other ways render to black in fcp. Sorry but this solution doesn't workMac Pro 4-Core 4GB X1900, Mac OS X (10.4.10)
Currently Being ModeratedDec 3, 2007 2:00 AM (in response to scorder)Why is this answered? The solution is still not here. Workaround is no solution for the black render problem.MacPro 4-Core X1900 4GB, Mac OS X (10.4.11)
Currently Being ModeratedDec 3, 2007 9:59 AM (in response to Tech2)Most likely because it answered the OPs question.
If you are aiming for the same thing as the OP and your situation is the same (which I assume it is since you've piggybacked it onto his post).
Patrick is Correct. The behavior of setting your background opacity changed between Motion 2 and Motion 3.
In the Project Properties, set your Background to Solid (instead of Transparent).
