If you just want to send a SMS message use this:
    tendigitnumber@cingularme.com

If you want to send an MMS message, send it to the persons email. MMS (mms.att.net) will not work for the iPhone. That is the address you use with the iPhone if you wish to send an MMS message from the iPhone to another AT&T customer.

You are correct. I picked the wrong one off of my list. Sorry about that.

I was previously using nnnnnnnnnn@mmode.com. This stopped working about 26 October and now does not work. nnnnnnnnnn@txt.att.net now works.

If Apple and AT&T consider it legitimate to use SMTP servers to send SMS messages to an iPhone, it would be helpful for them to document the address to be used for this purpose. I find no such documentation in the iPhone user's guide, nor on AT&T's Web site.

    Correction:

The address nnnnnnnnnn@txt.att.net is documented by AT&T, at:

    http://www.wireless.att.com/learn/messaging-internet/messaging/using-text-messag ing.jsp

(But the feature that lets you personalize your address seems to be non-existent.)
