    synced,

    Welcome to the Discussions.

Please identify which model G3 you have:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=24604

Do you have any bootable CDs for this model?

Will the powerbook start up to the flashing '?' on the gray screen, or is there no life at all?

If you are concerned about privacy, you can always as a last resort remove the HD. Not sure from your post if you would like to make a working powerbook or are planning to dispose of it.

    synced,

Welcome to the discussions. If you have an install CD, boot from it and format the drive. Find and select the option to 'write zeros' during the format and that should be safe enough. Otherwise, remove the drive and destroy it. It is sad to see good drives die. Only you can determine if the data is secret enough to destroy the drive.

Though the model wasn't on the link you guys showed me I did some searching on the back of my G3 and found that it was an m6497, after I did some searching on the web I realized that I posted this topic in the wrong category, is there a way for me to move this question to the appropriate forum? (sorry) If anybody is interested though, I DO NOT want to destroy the drive I just want to clear it so I can start using it again because ALL the data (including the boot sector) is corrupt.

So what model is that? iBook/500? titanium powerbook?

You can just copy \[to the clipboard] the text from your previous post, move to the new forum, create a new topic, and post it there.

Thanks, I posted a (revised) version of my earlier post in Apple.com > Support > Discussions > iBook G3 (Dual USB) > Using your iBook G3 (Dual USB).

    Thanks again,
