I have flagged a number of issues here: Firefox killed, Notes desktop hanging, Finder crashes, filesyncagent doesn't load, Word doesn't work ...
Have tried all suggestions including permissions fix, re-installing with archive etc etc.

In despair more than inspiration I thought I'd try another user (in this case an admin one) and guess what? No problems......

Firefox loads fine, word works. What to do now? Any suggestions ... please. Don't want to zapp my user, but can I export all my files and settings and then make a new onw ... or is there something simpler????

You could move your files to the Shared folder, and pass them to another user. Importing Mail might be a little tricker.

Try this first. Remove the User/Library?Preferences folder (you can put it back afterwords) to the desktop, and restart. If this fixes the problem, you can toss the new folder, move this one back, and with a little effort, probably determine the bad .plist file

Yes, you have to return them 10 at a time, and make sure you know which 10 (Alphabetical, top to bottom, always helps. Then, when you figure out which 10 contains it, decide if you'd mind losing all of them or not. You could isolate the specific one, by reinstalling half each time. Yes, you must logout each time.
