Q: PIsmo OSX 10.2.8 to 10.4.x upgrade question

I am new to the mac world so please be gentle.

I just bought a couple of pismos and I have decided to keep one for myself. It has OSX 10.2.8 on it along with office x for mac. It is a 500mhz with 192M of ram in it. I am going to upgrade it to 512 shortly. I would like to have 10.4 on it so I can remote desktop into it from my windows and linux boxes at work.

Can I use an OSX 10.4 DVD from another mac to upgrade this one to 10.4?

The other mac is an intel mac. Does that matter?

Will I lose all my programs? (I don't have the office CD or key)

I do not have any of media that came with it. I bought it with everything on it.

Thanks

Bob

    Welcome to the Apple Discussions!

    the bad news:
The DVDs that came with a different Mac will work only on that Mac. It would also be a violation of your license agreement to install on another Mac without an additional license. You would put your business profits, and the very existence of your company at risk. It creates an exposure that, if not reported to insurers, creditors, and shareholders, could be deemed fraudulent. "Don't bet your business on 'borrowed' software."

    the good news:
10.2.8 already supports SMB Windows File Sharing and Print Sharing. Mac Networking software available from 7.5.3 onward is forward and backward compatible with other Mac Networking software through 10.3.9. After 10.3.9, File Sharing with pre-OS 9 Macs is more difficult, but still possible. ssh and VPN are also supported, but you will need to download a VPN Client that works with your Mac OS, such as 'Chicken of the VNC'.
