What "Safari 3 problems" are you referring to? Safari 3 (the released one) runs very well on my systems.
If you really wish to retrogress, delete safari 3 from your system and then install Safari 2 from your software install DVD.

I downloaded 10.4.11 and we all know Safari 3 is having some problems. Dont know when apple plans to fix them but i want to go back to Safari 2? How would i go ahead and do so? Would 10.4.11 still be there? My pages are comming out a little strange with the new Safari 3. thanks!
No WE don't all know that Safari 3 is having some problems. Most of us are experiencing no problems at all. In every case so far the problems are caused by the presence of third party plugins, enhancers, or input managers. Instead of trying to move backwards you should be removing any third party add-ons you installed first. Find the one causing the problem and then visit the developer's web site to see if they have updated the product to work with Safari 3.
Here's some advice. Read through the many threads here to see what others have found installed in their systems that caused Safari 3 to choke. Some of the usual suspects are PicLens, Safari Enhancer, PithHelmet, etc. Look in the following folders to see what you have installed:
/Library/Internet Pug-Ins (this folder is located at the top level of your hard drive)
~/Library/Internet Plug-Ins (this folder is located in your Home (username) folder.
Check for any Safari related, third party items. Some of these things have uninstallers included with the original download. Use the uninstaller to remove the item. If not then just remove the item by dragging it to the desktop or trash. Now try Safari 3. If it's working now then you can start adding the third party add-ons back one at a time. You will soon find the culprit. Either trash it for good or look for an update from the developer.
If it's any consolation this sort of thing happens with every update. Third party stuff often breaks or causes problems. Apple can't check every single goofy add-on to see if it works or not nor should it. Users should carefully consider what third party add-ons they install. Not all developers are skilled programmers. Some use risky hacks to get their products to do what they advertise. These are the ones that cause most of the trouble because they rely on things that Apple might change in an update. It's up to the developer to make their product work with Apple's operating system, not the reverse.Dual 2.5GHz G5 Power Macintosh, Mac OS X (10.4.10), Safari 3 Beta Version 3.0.3 (522.12.1)
Currently Being ModeratedNov 17, 2007 8:07 AM (in response to lkrupp)Look, I don't care whether WE all know Safari is having problems or not. Yanki01's having problems and he's not alone. I'm having problems too and uninstalling the plugins didn't work. As for going back to Safari 2, I'd like to do that as well, but when I tried that approach, the installer wouldn't let me. Apparently, you need Safari 3 with 10.4.11.
Safari 3 won't even launch for me. I'm using Camino to get on the internet. I don't have a big problem with that. Camino works fine for me but my girlfriend likes Safari.
I'm at a dead end here. Anybody have any suggestions?mac mini, Mac OS X (10.4.11)

also it has some bold black boxes around some areas when im going to send a PM to a member on the forum...
Ill try to see if the plug-ins are the problem but seems like Apple didnt do their homework on this one.1.66 Intel MacMini..., Mac OS X (10.4.11), ...1st gen iPod nano*

Currently Being ModeratedNov 17, 2007 2:43 PM (in response to Yanki01)I'm having problems with Safari 3 as well - but the biggest problem I have is that we were FORCED to "upgrade" (hardly an upgrade, by the way), without a choice. I'm not happy with Safari 3 - too many bugs - but there doesn't seem to be any way to undo this.
Apple is acting more and more like Microsoft, and I'm not happy about it.G4, Mac OS X (10.4.11)

Either way, the user has lost functionality, and I would like to think that the purpose of these forums is to help each other -- not belittle people for loading something "goofy" that they thought would enhance their system.iMac (2.0 GHz G5, 1.5 GB RAM) and PowerBook (1.5 GHz G4, 512 MB RAM), Mac OS X (10.4.11)

One common plug-in that prevents Safari 3 from launching is "Safari Buttons." If you have this installed, then removing it would help.iMac (2.0 GHz G5, 1.5 GB RAM) and PowerBook (1.5 GHz G4, 512 MB RAM), Mac OS X (10.4.11)

Currently Being ModeratedNov 17, 2007 3:45 PM (in response to Yanki01)I am in the same boat; updated to 10.4.11 and Safari would not start (crashed when opening). I used an app called AppZapper, ininstalled Safari 3, then used my original system CDs to reinstall Safari. Although the version on my CDs is 2.0.3, all my settings, bookmarks, etc. were still there and Safari became 2.0.4. Currently Being ModeratedNov 19, 2007 5:40 PM (in response to javatoid)I have the Safari crash when launching problem after installing 10.4.11 update. This is uncharacteristic for Apple to update to a new Safari version in an OS update. Especially on a backlevel OS (Tiger). My wife's Powerbook had Safari Beta and Safari still works after the update. As a rule, I don't use Beta software and thus didn't have the Safari 3 beta. This is the crash: TIA

Currently Being ModeratedNov 19, 2007 6:48 PM (in response to lkrupp)Safari 3.0.4 was crashing about every 10 minutes. Followed your instructions and only left the most reliable plug-ins in place (Quicktime, Flash, FlipforMac).
Safari seems to be working well. Now my question...any of these plug-ins look suspicious? the UnifyCamino folder will not delete in the trash-- it always says it is "in use". I tried Camino at one point.. is this part of that browser? These are on the desktop and I'll try adding them one at a time until Safari gets weird again.

Currently Being ModeratedNov 19, 2007 7:37 PM (in response to Jonathan Hils)This fixed it for me:
I was able to copy Safari from another system where it worked. I think the 10.4.11 installer should detect Safari Enhancer and as many other known problem extensions and provide a way for users to deal with them by disabling and by installing just Safari without downloading a 322MB combo and a 3rd party utility.....
These plugins all work fine:

Flip4Mac WMV Plugin.plugin
Flip4Mac WMV Plugin.webplugin
Java Applet Plugin Enabler
PDF Browser Plugin
