Dark Display

I have purchased a MacBook Pro, second hand with a fault regarding the display.

The screen is very dark, although windows and menu bar are just visible. I have tried the usual pram and other factory resets to no avail. I have also attempted to change settings by hooking up to a desktop monitor but again this has not resolved the problem. A software update from 10.4.5 to 10.4.11 appeared to solve the problem as the screen came on at normal brightness during startup, but after a few minutes it reverted to the dark screen again. Is this a hardware or a software/firmware problem and can anyone help?

    Most likely a failing inverter. Or it could also be a loose connection to same. Either way disassembly will be required to repair it.

    Was this fault disclosed at time of purchase? If not get a refund.
