I just upgraded to iTunes 7.5, and a new menu item named Ringtones appears in the left playlist window. I don't have an iPhone, and don't forsee getting one anytime soon, and want to disble this item. When I go to my general preferences, its shows up as a shaded item that I can't uncheck. Is this just Apple's way of annoying us until we all buy an iPhone? If so, that kinda *****. Any ideas on how to disable it?

I feel this should be bumped up, because I have the same problem. Not that it's a huge deal, but I've done a lot of looking and no one seems to know how to get rid of that tab... I understand that you should un-check it in the preferences pane, but it's greyed out so that there's no way to do that. If anyone has an idea it'd be much appreciated.

Go to iTunes prefs -> General.
    Next to Show:, untick RIngtones.

If you're running 10.3.9, that checkbox is grayed out (and checked by default).

So there's no way to Un-check it then? Hm.... well I guess it's now a battle between how annoyed I am vs how cheap I am. Thanks, Jere.

I run both Panther (10.3.9) and Tiger (10.4.11) on separate partitions. I just upgraded to iTunes 7.6 (from 7.4) on each. The first thing I noticed was the ringtone icon ...which I have no use for. With Tiger, I have the option to uncheck the selection, but with Panther it's greyed out previously stated in this thread. I see the last previous entry in this thread is 12/16 I guess no one has yet come up with a fix. Since this problem has existed since v7.5, am I to assume that it's something apple has no interest in addressing? hrumpf!!!
