I have an earthlink mail account that I use and want to set mail up for, except that it doesn't exactly work. I'm not able to have Mail automatically set up the account, and when I do it manually, it does set up, but I am unable to sent emails. I get this message:

*Enter Password for Account*

The SMTP server "" rejected the password for user "-----"

Please re-enter your password, or cancel.

Any ideas of what's going on?

Note: I'm not sure if I may have filled out everything right when making the account, because I do not know or understand the specifics of the mail servers (or whatever they are).

I was unable to SEND MAIL using the same earthlink outgoing mail server I had been using on my laptop.

If you have several earthlink addresses under one (earthlink) account, you might need to use the username and password from the PRIMARY account for it to work.

The emails will still appear to be from the whichever email address you use, but in the ADVANCED menu, when you are entering Outgoing Server settings, use the username and password from the primary earthlink Account and see if it works. (Incoming mail settings can be same as on your computer).

    If you go to:

and click on "Setting up your email program", you will get step by step directions for setting up your account. Note the change in the outgoing server number from 25 to 587.

    Good luck!
