The "Shall I? Shan't I?" behaviour has at least a chance of successful remedy before you go through the grind of replacement. -

The soldering is very straightforward, and does not require delicate technique. You just need to get the parts hot enough to melt a big blob of solder on each of three connections, and try to keep the blobs from getting so big they engulf all three and short them together.
