Be very careful with this update...

I've just installed it on my iPod (I don't make any mystakes while upgrading,I own iPods since 2003..)and instead of rebooting and upgrading the firmware, my Classic just shutdown, and then I can't turn it on anymore (and even connect it to my PC) : the MENU+SELECT combinaison don't work for rebooting it : it don't show the Apple logo anymore, just a blank screen, as if the iPod was dead, and I think it is.

There's nothing else I can do as much as I know iPods. I'll send it to repair...

My classic 80Gig is bricked after the patch as well. I got the message saying the update was complete and the unit would restart, but it never restarted. Several attempts to reset it leads to nothing. Being a new Ipod owner I have a scheduled appointment with a 'genius' at our apple store today.

    It's bricked! NOOOOOO

Okay, can you report me what the Apple genius will tell you about that marvelous update-bricker ? As there's no Apple Store around me.. But anyway, I bet we'll have to send them our poor iPod !

Well my iPod works since I updated but the sound quality sounds worse than before. QUite a few people thought the sound was crap initially; I didn't but since the 1.1 update the volume limit seems to be reduced even more than before and the bass seems to have gone completely. And if you listen at a loud volume evel, when you switch off your player you get white noise coming through the earphones. Not good.

I have to say, the apple store here took real good care of me.

I sat down with the genius and he asked me what happened. I told him I attempted the 1.0.3 to 1.1 firmware update and after I got the 'successful' message and the notification of the iPod restart it never came back up regardless of what I tried. He tried a normal reset himself then said "Ok, hang on a second." About 30 seconds later he walked out of the back room with a brand spanking new iPod for me. He also gave me a set of "Power support" crystal film set, since my ipod had a screen protector on it (worth about $15.00 for the set he gave me.)

All I need to do now is resync when I get to the house.

It was a great expierence for me at the apple store and their customer service.

ok thanks. Just asked because a few weeks ago my ipod would randomly disconnect/reconnect. Took it to the local apple store and they deemed the ipod usb port defective, as it did the same thing when they tried a new usb cable. Supposedly they didn't have any "parts" in stock (apparently they call refurbs parts)and told me to take it to Target, where I bought it. As I had purchased it less than a month ago I was able to exchange it, but it made me wonder, if target wasn't able to help me, if they would have swapped it out or had me send it in.

No problem with the update on this end. Of course I was using Mac OS X rather than my Vista machine.

    Hey guys,
Just to let you know that my iPod Classic arise from the deads ! (Remember I bricked it when I did the 1.1 update-first post-).

This morning, I retry to reboot it with menu+select and.. whooo ! It boot, says that the battery is empty and have to be plug to charge. What I did, and then, a progression bar appears (the bar you have when you normally update the iPods firmware.) Update done. Reboot, apple logo, and that's OK !
Finally, my iPod is not dead. So people who have the same problem, try to put the iPod away for a day or two, and then retry to reboot (I think the battery drain itself during this problem, even if the iPod seems to be off..)

Not sure if I'm having the same problem...
I have a 4th gen ipod photo (20gb). It told me to reset it, in the middle I got a 1418 notice, I followed the instructions for that. Then I got a funny looking do not disconnect... even after itunes was closed. It did nothing, till it finally ran out of power and died. I then plugged it in, got a funny battery symbol that meant it was out of power... it never recharged. Finally, it just plain died.

it's a brick now... I don't live anywhere near an apple store (2.5 hours away). What do I do now? Plus mine's like four years old so I doubt they'll do anything anyway. This is making me sick.
