Hello all,

I am a student at a university in NY state, and have been given an e-mail address that I need to check frequently. I also have a Yahoo! account that I use as my main e-mail for things like Mac subscriptions and Facebook. In other words, I need to check both many times/day. I have never really worked with the Mail app, as I've always just created bookmarks in Safari. But, I think it would save me a lot of time if I could just have Mail running in the background, simply prompting me when there is a new message. However, herein lies the issue: though I've tried setting up both accounts, neither will receive or send any messages. Any ideas are welcome!

i presume that you can get online, and thus have no issue with your internet connection.

i would suggest you check first your incoming and outgoing mail servers on both accounts to make sure they are correctly set up. go to mail>preferences>accounts, select one account and in the accuont information pane check if your user id, password and incoming mail servers are correct. then below click on the outgoing mail server, drop down the menu to edit server list, then go to both panes account info and advanced and check the server, and the port. make sure all that info is correct as per your email provider for one account and then the other.

second, if the above is correct but you still cannot send or receive, go to your keychain access app in applications/utilities and check if you have the correct passwords there for each account and/or if you have duplicates. correct and/or delete duplicates if need be.

finally you may have to play with the ports for incoming and outgoing as per above, as maybe your isp may be blocking one port or another.

    hope this helps
