in LS8 there is something called the ENVIRONMENT
Menu Window -- Envoirement or Apple+8
for details take the big black book from page 857.
on page 868 you'll find the MIDI Signal Path in the Envoirement.
in that place you can visual connect your midi streams.

Ok so let me see if I am understanding this correctly. I currently Have an MV880 and a Motif es6. I am hoping to use logic as an audio recorder/SS sound module. I like the sequencer in my MV8800 so I want to have that hooked up to logic and say have 16 virtual instruments pulled up so I can assign my 16 midi tracks on my mv8800 to 16 different instrument tracks in Logic. With logic only supporting 16ch of input, I couldn't have the 16 channels of my mv and be playing my motif at the same time??

Not the easy way using multiplayer record, because there aren't 17 MIDI channels.

You could use environment routings to route your Motif to "play* your 17th instrument in Logic. In fact, if all you want to do is use Logic as aosu nd module, and are not sequencing at all, then you can set up hundreds of instruments, because you can cable each channel on each MIDI port directly to an audio instrument. Because you're not sequencing in Logic, the direct cabling is not a problem.

So in your case, I would suggest using direct cabling in the environment, rather than the multiplayer reocrd feature - it will give you as many instruments live as you need.

Thanks for the reply. SO I would have to cable all of those in the Environment? and that would keep me from being able to use the sequencer input? pardon my Ignorance I'm coming from sonar and Ableton live where you can easily route many hardware midi controllers to any number of VI's with no problems, and be able to record them.

Maybe you know a good resource talking in depth about routing midi in logic? There really isn't anything useful in the manual. I purchased some of the macprovideo.com videos and they didn't really go into the midi studio thing either. I don't really think that trying to hook up some external sequencers and have them playing logic VI's should be that difficult or overlooked. Also, the fact of doing that and losing the ability to sequence in logic seems a bit weird to me.

OK so I found out how to connect ports directly to VI's. However can I change the channels the VI's respond to? They seem to respond to any channel on the incoming port. When I change th channel setting on the Inst object it still responds to all channels feed to it?

hi i was following his thread, understand how to change midi channels in an instrument track, but not how or where to change channels for controllers. do you mind explaining?
