Q: Apple Wireless Keyboard won't pair

My Apple wireless keyboard won't pair with my MacBook Pro running Leopard 10.5.1. Until a few hours ago, it's been working fine. It's an older keyboard (white). It also won't pair any longer with an iBook G4 running Leopard 10.5.1. I've tried most of the suggestions on the various discussion threads without success.

One unique finding I hope that will help someone find a solution: If I use Bluetooth asst and select keyboard, it will not find it. If however, I use 'any device' the keyboard is seen and named 'Apple Wireless Keyboard' but the type is listed as 'unknown'. This tells me that the keyboard is sending and the Mac is receiving, but something is missing in the identification. I've tried continuing with the Any Device option but the pairing is never successful. (I've tried all the various passkey options.)

Hopefully Apple will fix this soon!

MacBook Pro 2.4 Core 2 Duo, Mac OS X (10.5.1)

Add me to the list too. My old mouse still works, but the keyboard will not pair. Also, last night, my printer, hooked up through an Airport Express, stopped working.

I hope they fix this soon; I'm not buying a new keyboard.

I have resolved my problem. I had to unpair my new keyboard from another computer it was still connected too. Now it works without problem in Leopard on my Mac Book Pro Duo.

    Wishing you luck,

For those of you who still have a problem recognizing your BT keyboard - be sure the Discoverable check box is checked in the BT setup assistant. Mine somehow became unchecked and I could not add my Apple wireless keyboard. Once rechecked it worked as expected and everything is fine. OS here is 10.5.1.

Unfortunately, neither pairing with another computer nor the discoverable option is the cause in my case.

My Apple wireless keyboard (the older white one) won't pair with either my Macbook or my Mac Mini, both running 10.5.1. It appears under devices in the bluetooth dropdown, but doesn't work. It also doesn't appear in keyboard and mouse prefs. I've tried set new bluetooth device and it can't find it. Help!

I have a client that is experiencing this same problem. IMac 10.4. Batteries died, replaced, won't pair and can't find in detected devices.

I am curious as to why someone from Apple hasn't replied. It seems to be a common problem across devices and OS.

Same exact issue here...Leopard worked fine for several weeks, then suddenly, the white wireless bluetooth keyboard would not pair, or be recognized, brand new batteries used...

I'm curious as to how many of those who are having problems can see their keyboard under 'Any Device' in the Bluetooth Set Up Assistant, but the Type is Unknown.

Hi, I think I can help-I have had a huge headache trying to air a second Mac, and finally found an Apple help page, no less, in which it said to turn on the computer to which the keyboard is to be paired, THEN turn on the keyboard and watch for the sequence of lights and pauses that indicate that it is in discoverable mode.

At that point if you have Bluetooth devices set up assistant open, you will see the magic word "keyboard" in the box and you take it from there.
Are these directions in the booklet that came with the keyboard? NO. Have I spent roughly 3 hours trying to figure this out, YES. Get a grip Apple.....

Unfortunately, this does not resolve the issue I'm experiencing. I did try again, following the sequence suggested, but as before the keyboard is not recognized as a keyboard and only can be seen under any device, although none of the pairing options allows it to connect.

Thank you, but it's not the solution for me. I had seen this Apple help page, I tried this sequence. But it's the same as it is for ProfT : white keyboard still won't pair.

I'm having the same problem - white wireless keyboard can't pair with my MacBook Pro. Mouse is fine, but the keyboard might as well be a shoebox. Any ideas gratefully received.

My iMac is less than a year old. Keyboard was working fine and then suddenly dies. I suspect dead batteries and switch them out. My keyboard is discovered but won't pair. I type the numbers, press enter, and then, timeout. I switched the batteries out again. Just bought, Energizer batteries. The light turns steady green for a few seconds and then goes out. Nothing works. I can't seem to find a solution and of course I can't find the warranty info. This should be a simple fix really but I can't find any "literature" on it online. Why is that? Can nobody offer a solution to this? Considering the frequency and longevity of occurrence, surely Apple must be able to tell us something...

Any update on this. I have the same issue with two different white wireless keyboards on Leopard. New batteries, won't pair under BT setup assistant unless I select any device, but then it shows the type as unknown and doesn't actually pair it. Apple wireless Mouse works fine. Really frustrating.

What's the point of the apple discussion forums if no one from apple actually responds?
