Nov 29, 2007 5:58 PM in response to Tara Jainby PAHU,Looking at the Canon Europe web site, there doesn't appear to be a driver available for Mac OS X. And since it uses Canon's CAPT protocol, you probably won't find a compatible driver from other sources, such as Gutenprint. I suggest you contact your local Canon support and ask them if the LBP2900 has a Mac OS X driver. -
Feb 5, 2008 12:40 PM in response to PAHUby thenez,I'm also stumped. I've been using these printers for almost 2 years and love them. I recently made the switch to OS X and have been loving it. My only problem is that when I'm at work I am unable to print through the local network. I have everything else setup ... thanks to OS X ... but I cannot connect to the printer since the drivers are missing.
I've been searching all different sources for the drivers and still find nada. Any and all help would be awesome on this one. -
Feb 15, 2008 9:10 AM in response to thenezby Litachao,There exists a rather complicated workaround to print to non-postscript printers on a WindowsXP machine via LAN. Don't know if it still works on Leopard.

Feb 15, 2008 11:39 AM in response to Litachaoby Litachao,I just tried that on my friend's mac, who's using the Canon LBP 2900 on her virtualized WindowsXP running under VMWare Fusion. Works perfectly. Follow the steps described in the URL above and then tell OSX to add a new IP-Printer (LDP) and connect it to the IP of the virtual network interface of the OS running on Fusion. Now you can directly print from OSX to your LBP 2900. Should work with Parallels as well.

Feb 25, 2008 2:31 PM in response to armadillo08by Dexter_HD,I'm on 10.5.2 & this method don't work...
Please help .
Update: In the head of the macosxhints article
"So here's how -- note that these instructions are *_for OS X 10.4.8 and later, but not for 10.5_*."
Why this method don't work on leo? The printer management is not the same?

Because CAPT drivers are 10.4.x only. Wait until they will be compatible with 10.5. Canon promised Leo fixes this year. There was even an official announcement. -

Mar 9, 2008 7:46 AM in response to Dexter_HDby Andy Goundry,Hi
Please can you advise how you got the canon lbp 2900 to work with Leopard? I just bought this printer based on this potential, but having installed the driver i can't see a particularly accurate driver to use and whichever i select, the printer does not work
Which driver did you use?
Thanks -
Mar 9, 2008 10:25 AM in response to Andy Goundryby Andy Goundry,OK, so i've been through the instructions above and reset printers and had the printer setup app recognise the 1.70 CAPT driver. But, whenever i print, the docs sit in the queue in a state of 'stopped'.
any ideas?

Mar 9, 2008 3:51 PM in response to Andy Goundryby Dexter_HD,Yes it's works .
I use the Canon CAPT driver + the Canon Lbp2900 driver:
- Download & install the Canon CAPT driver:
http://software.canon-europe.com/software/0028785.asp?model=
- Download & install the Canon LBP2900 driver:
& Place it into the /Library » Printers » Canon » CAPT » Profile
& connect your printer & all is OK .
I think it's because you don't have install the specific drivers... (for the 2900).

Mar 24, 2008 1:43 PM in response to Dexter_HDby armadillo08,followed your steps, but the system can't recognize the driver for the printer. basically once i have installed the CAPT driver and the .gz file in the profile folder, i connect the printer and the system sees it is a LBP 2900 but cannot find the corresponding driver, do i have to pick a different driver from the list?
thanks! -
Mar 31, 2008 6:23 AM in response to Andy Goundryby KIR76,hello
I have also followed your steps, but the system can't recognize the driver for the printer. I have installed the CAPT driver and the .gz file in the profile folder, i connect the printer and the system sees it is a LBP 2900 but cannot find the corresponding driver.
thanks for more informations!
