    There's an article this month is SOS as well which dispels many of the myths associated with sampling rates and aliasing (mirroring). If you have subscription I highly recommend you read it.

    (Not to start and argument but it seems aliasing is guarded against with a brickwall filter which makes it impossible for higher frequencies to drop in on you when using 44.1 )

    +1 - Hugh Robjohns does excellent articles and this is a must read for anyone strugling to understand some of these concepts.

    And yes - to avoid aliasing, you must make sure none of the input frequencies are higher than the Nyquist limit. This is done with a filter, and at 44KHz sampling rates the filter has to be very steep, to avoid filtering out to much wanted audio, but steep enough to remove any potential aliasing frequencies. Very steep filters are difficult to make.

    At higher sample rates, the filters do not need to be so steep, as there is a larger range between regular wanted frequencies (say to 20KHz) and the Nyquist limit.
