There seems to be a compatability issue between my iPod Classic and my Robi DAB radio attachment. The DAB radio was working just fine until last week, when I downloaded the latest iPod software updates. Since then, the Robi works fine when it is used as a remote control for the iPod, but when it is used in radio mode, the iPod shuts down after a few minutes (as though it does not recognise that the radio is still attached, and thinks that there is no activity) and the Robi closes down too (due to lack of battery power when the iPod is no longer on). It could be a coincidence, but my guess is that the iPod updates are causing a problem.

I have tried to remove the new software updates from the iPod, ie I deleted the latest updates from the iPod software updates file (C/Documents and Settings/user name/Application data/Apple Computer/iTunes/iPod Software updates), unchecked the box labelled "automatically check for software updates", and then tried to restore the iPod using the old software. At that point, a message from iTunes appeared, to the effect that it could not go any further due to no internet connection. I could not find any way of restoring the iPod without letting iTunes download the current sortware updates.

So the question is, does anyone else have a similar compatability problem (with the Robi or anything else) and how can I get the iPod to run on the previous software?

I would be very grateful for any advice, as this is a very frustrating problem.

Sue

    I can also confirm since I've upgraded to 1.1 it's bricked the use of my Robi in radio mode which shuts off suddenly with a click.

    One thing it did cure from previous firmwares was whilst the robi was connected the backlight on the Ipod used to stay on continously which seems to be sorted. However we're both left with a rather expensive corded remote ;o)

    I think this is something Apple have to fix with 1.1.1!

    I have a new Imac (few months old) and just purchased an Ipod classic 80G, and I got the Robi for christmas,It worked fine on my old mini Ipod but since the software update it keeps shutting down,I have to press the Robi centre button and they both come back to life......very frustrating!

    Just thought I would add to the thread as I thought I was on my own
    Please help

    Oh great, so the backlight problem is cured and replaced by a much worse one - no radio!

    Feel sorry for you guys but at least you warned me - can avoid the 1.1 upgrade as I'd like to keep my dab working!

    Let's hope someone at Apple reads this and that the problem is easily fixed.

    The good news is that I removed the most recent iPod software update, restored the iPod (ie returned it to factory settings and reloaded all 14500 songs) and now I am really pleased to say that the iPod and the Robi are working together again in harmony, which is a huge relief.

    Since I had inadvertently deleted the previous version of the iPod software from my PC, I had to download the files from here;

    http://rapidshare.com/files/73863240/1.0.3.zip.html

    I have contacted Roberts Radio about this problem. The recent 1.1 software update must be even more frustrating for them, since they have sold lots of Robi radios.

    If anyone needs help to revert to the previous iPod software, have a look at this thread, where the instructions are printed in red;

    Hello,

    I have a possible workaround, I am not sure is this will work for you anyway here goes, this applies for 1.1 firmware.

    After playing with my Robi and Ipod(classic 160) I noticed after playing with the settings the Ipod seemed to forget that its connected to the Robi and the Robi worked as it should the back light goes off and the DAB stays on after many attemps to find out how to make this happen everytime bwlow is what works for me.

    1. Plug in the Robi and set it to remote.
    2. set the Ipod so its on the back light adjustment screen.
    3 Keep pressing the mode button on the Robi (quite radpidly) after about 10 presses the IPod forgets what its plugged into, after this when you use the Robi instead of the white Robi screen you get what looks like the sync screen with the track listing at the bottom.

    IF this does not work go back to the brightness adjustment screen and repeat the steps above.

    This only has to be done once until the Robi is unplugged.

    I know this is not ideal but it just proves its a software problem.

    Thanks for this mauander - I agree with you that the problems with the Robi were caused by a software problem. Since I downgraded to 1.0.3, the Robi has worked really well (just as it did before the 1.1 upgrade in fact).

    I am going to keep the v1.0.3 software and decline all offers of software upgrades from iTunes and Apple until the v1.1 mess has been resolved.

    Lets hope we get a solution soon, I don't want to roll back my firmware and reload all my tracks lifes to short.

    Atleast I can use my DAB now.

    As far as I can tell there is a workaround for the latest problem with the Robi (this might count as a bad design choice not a bug, though). Once the radio is on, push the "hold" switch on the Robi to "on". Then it continues to work and the backlight stays off.

    It isn't quite the expected way I want the thing to perform, but it seems to work. I'd be interested to see if this works for others.

    thanks for the only solution that works! Since trying your manoevre my Robi is still playing for the first time since the catastrophic 1.1.1 update which messed us all up. Apple don't come up with a solution neither does Robi and although it is a bore to keep pressing the mode button on Robi in the backlight setting menu on iPod it does at least work. Well done and thanks!

    Thank you for the file which I downloaded successfully and deleated the wretched 1.1.1. files replacing them in my apple/itunes/updater files with the 1.03 files. Would you believe it that even offline apple still managed to get the 1.1.1. files back in there and on to the iPod. They are determined not to let us have the old 1.03. There must be some secret to stop the 1.1.1. coming back like disconnecting the iPod at some strategic moment after clicking restore so that it has lost its 1.1.1 and will only pick up the 1.03 from the folder. Any ideas?
