After Time Machine working for about a month, it seems to have stopped working. I keep getting the error message:

'Unable to complete backup. An error occurred while creating the backup directory.'

There is only 7GB of space left on the external drive to which I back up, so am guessing that the error is something to do with Time Machine failing to wipe old backups to create space for the new backups. Does anyone know what I can?

I am getting the same error but I have still plenty of space left (more than 140GB free on external TM disk while the internal disk to be backed up has just 120GB). It was working fine since the very beginning and suddenly stopped working.
