I am having random unpredictable logout from leopard 10.5.2

All open apps close, and the login screen appears without warning.

Also described here:

http://echeng.com/journal/2008/01/25/mac-os-105-leopard-sudden-logoutlogin/
http://jimmitchell.org/2008/02/19/abrupt-logout-in-leopard-1052/

Any suggestions?

I have the same issue several times when I tried to do fast user switch. This is really bad since
I need to make sure all documents are saved before attempting to switch to other use. Any
    one has the same issue?

Add me to the list of folks who are having this exact problem. Same WindowServer event port death entry in Console as well.

I'm using a MacBook Pro C2D 2.6 GHz running 10.5.2. I haven't been able to isolate the issue any further. It's been happening with earlier versions of 10.5 however, not just 10.5.2.

If anyone has more insight it would be a great help. I too have lost work because of this.

Same problem here. It has done this twice in the past three days, both times costing me around twenty minutes of unsaved work. Urgh.

Should I post my crash logs here?

Same issue keeps happening to me when using iTunes, Firefox and/or Entourage. Not necessarily at the same time. Today had only iTunes on all afternoon & it restarted at least 6 times in space of 5 hours.
Also happening separately (& not as often) is that the Firefox or Entourage window will close spontaneously yet it will appear that the program is still open. The menu bar remains visible yet I can't get the window back unless I force quit & reboot.
Any thoughts? This is driving me crazy!
    Thanks....

Same thing here. 2GHz C2D 17" iMac, 2GB Factory-installed SDRAM, 37GB available on HD, OS X 10.5.2 - running latest versions of Mail, Safari, Word 2008, Excel 2008, Acrobat Pro 8, FileMaker Pro 8.

While doing routine work in FileMaker, the screen turns blue for about a second, then the Finder returns and all my Login Items start up. Console showed the following (with several pages of lines similar to the 2nd line on:

    4/10/08 10:52:15 AM [0x0-0x18018].com.filemaker.pro8[169] Thu Apr 10 10:52:15 Steves-Computer.local FileMaker Pro[169] <Error>: CGCryptorProcessBytes: CCCryptorUpdate failed: error -4300.

4/10/08 11:03:21 AM Mail[171] HIToolbox: received notification of WindowServer event port death.
    4/10/08 11:03:21 AM com.apple.launchd[1] (com.apple.WindowServer[87]) Exited abnormally: Segmentation fault
4/10/08 11:03:21 AM Microsoft Excel[167] HIToolbox: received notification of WindowServer event port death.
4/10/08 11:03:21 AM Safari[170] port matched the WindowServer port created in BindCGSToRunLoop
4/10/08 11:03:21 AM Finder[131] HIToolbox: received notification of WindowServer event port death.
    ...

Does anyone have a solution to this? It happens as much as 2 or 3 times a week or as little as once every couple of weeks - ever since I upgraded to OS X 10.5.

Additional info. I can be working in anything when this happens - not just FileMaker. Also, reinstalled 10.5.2 via Combo Install as suggested by a Mac Tech - which seemed to work for a while, but now it's back.

I'm not much for reading logs, but the offending problem––the segfault––appears to be originating in WindowServer. It might be a good idea for us all to move the com.apple.windowserver.plist file in /Library/Preferences/ and see if it makes a difference. Perhaps it's damaged or malformed in some way?

this JUST happened to me… i’m on 10.5.2 on a macbook pro with 2GB of factory RAM. i was running dreamweaver, itunes and streaming from itunes radio, mysqld_safe, a ruby on rails app (mongrel invoked by script/server on port 3000), firefox, textedit…

i lost a little bit of work but nothing too critical… i specifically switched to mac from windows because i did not want to go through blue screens of death again… my finder turned blue and i was logged out. that was the fastest log out i have ever seen. also the applications when re-launched re-launched immediately, also the fastest ive experienced when logging in from a reboot, cold start, or just regular log in…

very weird… is this starting to be a wide problem?

I'm also having this problem, but it only occurs when running Microsoft Excel 2004 (under Rosetta on my intel mac).

As others mention, it ist the same WindowServer event port death message as others are seeing.

Note that everyone here is running a somewhat older application that is probably running in Rosetta:
    * com.microsoft.Excel (not sure on your version, AOH)
    * Entourage
    * FileMaker Pro 8 (Word 2008, Excel 2008, Acrobat Pro 8) Not sure if Word and Excel 2008 are universal binaries... god I would hope so..
    * Dreamweaver
    * And me with Excel 2004... which is basically the only Rosetta app I have used since I got my MacPro 3 months ago.

Two of my users reported this exact issue while using Excel 2004 as well. I upgraded one to Office 2008, but I'm holding off on the other, having reinstalled Office 2004 per suggestion of the service line at Microsoft Mactopia.

Here's my log for a user with a (closed-cover w/external monitor) Macbook Pro:

Add me to the list, abrupt logoff while using Excel 2004 on 10.5.2. I also had Firefox 2 and iTunes running at the same time. Not sure what my wife had running in her profile at the time.

    I'm also experiencing this problem.

Tonight I was running Maya 8.5 and Quicktime. I left the applications open on my computer for a while to do something else. When I came back, my Mac had logged me out.

This has happened before too though I do not recall this problem occurring before upgrading to 10.5.2.

I checked my memory using Rember. It tested okay. Weird, but I can't get AHT to run (Apple Hardware Test). I've pressed the "D" key at boot, but it will not run.

Main drive and permissions are all okay.

Hope someone can give us some help.
