I use an Ipod now. If I bought an iPhone and sync it with my iTunes... will it no longer allow syncs with my regular iPod? Or can I have both my purchases on both devices?

    No.

Or can I have both my purchases on both devices?

Yes, except for rented movies, which can only exist on one device for each rental.

ok so it I can still use both, like movies (including rentals) on my video ipod, and my music on my iPhone. (storage is the reason for the two devices.)?

Yes, but the Fifth Generation iPod cannot play rented movies; it only works with purchased ones out of those from the iTunes Store. The iPod classic, third generation iPod nano, iPhone, and iPod touch will play rented movies.
