I've just updated to Leopard on a brand new hard drive so I don't have all my address book contacts or iCal info on my new hard drive. I was wondering where on my old hard drive (if i viewed it as an external drive) i'd have to look to find the file (xml I assume?) with my contacts on and the file for my calendar which i could copy to my new hard drive and replace the 10.5 one with.

Thanks in advance,
Curtis.

not quite sure how to do it by just transferring preferences files but you can do this:

Boot from your old drive, go to the address book and go to File menu->Export address book archive. In ical do File menu->back up ical.

Then boot up from internal and import those files into Address book and ical respectively (do restore... for ical).

    I see.
In that case try importing the preference files.
make sure neither address book nor ical are running.
    For the address book:
On the old HD go to Users/yourusername/Library.
Copy the folder Application Support/Address Book to the corresponding place on your internal drive.
Next go to directory Preferences and copy the files com.apple.AddressBook.plist and com.apple.AddressBook.abd.plist to the corresponding place on the internal drive.

Start the Address Book and see what happens.

If this works, we can try the same with ical.

ok, this worked on my computer for address book so it should hopefully work for you too.

    For ical:

take the directory Users/yourusername/Libary/Calendars and the file Users/yourusername/Libary/Preferences/com.apple.iCal.plist and copy them to the corresponding places on your internal drive.
Start iCal. this worked for me too when I did it for two different accounts on the same computer.

move the folder Users/yourusername/Library/Safari over to the new computer.

In general, all local settings live in homedirectory/Library - you just have to find them.

I was able to transfer Address Book as previously described.

But I am unable to transfer ical.

Could use help. The items transferred over, but nothing... its as if I just downloaded a new ical or something without any of my dates/birthdates/etc...
