Crossover isn't free though. Darwine is.

    Hi All,

I have the full version of Crossover on my MBP 2.2 C2D with Tiger 10.4.11 and I have also installed Windows Media Player 9 for mac. I think I have to also install "Internet Explorer 6 via Crossover". If I do do so, when I finally get to set everything up, will the fact that I will be using IE6 and Sopcast on my mac then make my MBP open up to all sorts of viruses and malware? I am really concerned about this as my main reason to buy a Mac was to get away from all that kind of stuff! I would be very thankful for help on this!

    Regards,

    SuaveBhav!

Hi, Check that you have version 1.1.2 and not 2.0.4 or 3.0.0. The Darwine route only works with 1.1.2 at the moment!

Use MPlayer instead (see instructions in my post above). Much better.

Isn't there an easier way to use Sopcast on a Mac by using the Linux Version of Sopcast instead of the Windows version? Wouldn't that open up other options besides Crossover, Darwine or Fusion/Parallels?

Hi, I have followed your orderly list and all is good until I enter a url in the mplayer 'open location'...then nothing. Everything else is spot on can you please advise. I have never used sopcast so I am a bit out of place. cheers.

Someone else asked this too - when you are installing the other files (mp71, mpsetup, sopcast) do you use new bottles?

And if so are they also windows 98?

I did this, it works great for a couple seconds, then the video in mplayer dies.

I've killed of winehelper, but I think it keeps coming back.

    Any way to fix this?

    Try XQuartz
    http://trac.macosforge.org/projects/xquartz
I had something similar and I moved on.

OOOPS- I know why your video is stopping after a few seconds...! Guys I forgot a step in L) - When you launch MPlayer, you need to go into preferences and then the tab Miscellaneous and tick "Use cache (slow media)". If you don't do this, the video stops after 10 seconds. I had forgotten that I had done this.

Use MPlayer...VLC doesn't work very well with sopcast and darwine.

I am following the instructions for using Darwine.

    I installed Sopcast.
However, after a successful log in, Sopcast crashes.

    The darwine log is:

err:module:import_dll Library MFC71.DLL (which is needed by L"C:\\Program >Files\\SopCast\\CrashReport\\XCrashReport.exe") not found
err:module:LdrInitializeThunk Main exe initialization for L"C:\\Program >Files\\SopCast\\CrashReport\\XCrashReport.exe" failed, status c0000135

I downloaded and MFC71.DLL, but still no luck.

wine: Call from 0x7b8328b8 to unimplemented function msvcr71.dll._vscwprintf, aborting

next, I downloaded and installed msvcr71.dll.

Now sopcast crashes, and I am not sure what is wrong...
    Here is the log
