I am now getting this same problem. These are on music videos that I purchased from the itunes store. The timer seems to run, so it acts like it is playing. No sound and just a grey box for the video.

Have you also updated to QuickTime 7.4.5? And what is your video playback set to (e.g. in the iTunes window, in a separate window, fullscreen)?

My videos are also silent and grey, with the exception of one. The only difference between the one that is visible and the others is that the visible one is an mpeg-4 video file. The others are protected mpeg-4 video files. I can move files from my PC laptop to my PC desktop with no problem using the same iTunes backup CD.When I use this CD in the mac I get the deadly grey screen. All three computers are authorized for transfer through iTunes. I'm running iTunes 7.6.2 on the mac and 7.6.2.9 on the PC.

Running software update for QuickTime fixed the problem. I had the the same problem today. Before I Googled for a solution I paid $1.50 for a video because I thought I had corrupted files. Apple needs to do something to get the word out about this flaw in the new updates to Itunes. Itunes help listed downloading the latest version of quick time but, I thought I had the latest version since my computer is set to automatic updates.

Thank you Brenton Bills for shining the Quicktime light where there was only silence and gray. Your upgrade fix with Quicktime was the answer. Thanks again.

I am having the same problem, but am unable to update Quicktime to the current version. Whenever I try to update, I get the error message:

The digital signature for this package is incorrect. The package may have been tampered with or corrupted since being signed by “Apple”.
