Q: iTunes Freezes when ipod is connected

When I connect my ipod to my computer my iTunes freezes up. I just recently restored my ipod so I lost all of my songs and now I can't reload them onto my ipod. My ipod continutally says "Do Not Disconnect" but my iTunes is frozen. Any thoughts? I've reset my ipod and I also restarted the computer. If I wait for a long time my iTunes says it found a corrupt ipod and it needs restored, even though I have done that a few times. It's frustrating so any help would be appreciated.

They emailed me back and told me I should call them for more support, but I haven't had time, and reading your other post, I'm not sure there's any point. I'm pretty sure I've tried everything they could possibly suggest. I actually got it to work a little bit better today by uninstalling iTunes and reinstalling it with my iPod still plugged in... it started to sync, but it ended up stopping halfway through, and now I can't get it to do anything again.

With this many people having the same problem, it has to be a software thing, and it's been brought to their attention, so I hope they release something soon...

For some reason, it started working. I didn't do anything to it... but I've synced it two or three times now with no problem at all. Go figure.

To anyone still having a problem: good luck.

    AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

I recently bought and 8gig nano (2nd gen) to replace my 2gig nano (1st gen) because i thought it was a hardware issue with the older model. (just figured the sucker had lived a full life and it was time to move on)

I have tried EVERYTHING!!! and Itunes still freezes up. "my computer" also freezes up. However the ipod does show up in device manager. I have searched every forum and tried every possible thing to get this going. Its getting absolutely ridiculous!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am a PC guy at heart but I have NEVER considered getting a zune until now. I've always enjoyed my ipods (and i've had lots lol) Breaks my heart. I now have two nanos that are nothing more than paperweights.

This needs to get fixed soon. Or ebay FTW.

I am STILL having this problem, but now I keep getting random error messages... last night it said something about detecting an iPod but not being able to identify it, and today it said that attempting to copy to iPod disc failed, and that it can't be read from or written to.

I was really hoping the last update would help, and it didn't... I wish an admin would step in here...

I also got same windows error messages about reading the disc, not recognizing the volume etc. when copying.
I contacted tech support and they agreed to take the ipod back for repair or replacement.
btw...I also wrote to Steve Jobs suggesting an admin step in to this forum. He's not replied as yet. Keep you posted.

Yes, this was one of the remedies suggested by the online tech support folks. It worked briefly after the re-install and but then freezes again.

i had the same thing with my ipod classic 80 gig which was working perfectly until february when it was wiped out completely somehow, used another apple product that allowed my ipod to play on my radio then my friend used her ipod on it and for some reason she had 240 gigs on her ipod which was only 160 gigs and my 80 gig had nothing left. It was just replaced in march and now im having the same problem with itunes. First it started with my ipod not syncing (400 of my songs would sync then it would stop with a -50 error and when i tried to play the songs on my ipod they were corrupt) so i used this method (http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=304996) I then connnected my ipod and itunes started to freeze so i started reading this thread and by the time i was done it unfroze and my ipod started to restore. I think my ipod restored and now itunes is frozen again.

My 80gb classic wouldn't play a music video I dowloaded. It would play for like 45 seconds then freeze. I restored my iPod and now whenever i plug it in, iTunes freezes and i no longer have any songs (or videos) on my iPod. I have to shut down my computer in order to disconnect my iPod. Please Help. Thanks!

Whenever I connect my 80GB iPod to iTunes, the iTunes software freezes and will not sync with the player. It began as soon as I installed the new iTunes that coincided with iPhone 2.0 software release. Any fixes?

Same thing happened to me, right after I installed the latest revision of iTunes. I have the 60Gb photoPod.

However, We are a multi-Mac family. I plugged the iPod into my MacBook Pro last night, and it fired right up and was recognized. It appears that the problem lies with my G5, so I'm wondering if it's a PPC vs. Intel thing.

I will try tonight to connect to my wife's G5 and see if it does the same thing. Haven't tried our Mini yet.
