Hello,

Has anyone been able to work out how to allow their kids that are using Parental Controlled account to use iChat via Bonjour i.e. chat with others on the same network?

As others have said, when I disable Parental Control, iChat via Bonjour works.... switch it on, iChat (via Bonjour) dies, with a greyed out use Bonjour in iChat Prefs.

Appreciate feedback on this.

N.B. Other Bonjour dependant services such as iPhoto & iTunes sharing seems to be fine with the Parental Controlled account, it's just iChat!

    Hi,

I set up a test account to try this and had problems with iChat Logging in full stop.

It would not recognise the Screen names I added to the AIM List let alone allow me to test the Bonjour link.

I did get a message that I thought I had not set up the Account properly but I could not find out what I had done wrong.

Currently I can not Login to my AIM account as it says I have done so too many times.

IF I find out more I will post.

If anyone can you can.... I've been trying (admittedly half-heartedly) for some time now, hoping with each software update it will be fixed.

Has any one made any progress on this? I feel like I've been bashing my head against a brick wall for the past week.

I am having the exact same problem. The iMac I have set up for the kids will NOT let iChat logon to Bonjour.

I would just like to add my "pleas" to this thread. I just spent hour setting up and configuring parental controls for two young teenagers only to discover that they can't use Bonjour chat.

This seems like a phenomenal oversight on Apple's part.

I googled this issue and found posts on this going back to 2003 so apparently this has been a known issue for some time!

    It doesn't work.

Use Adium instead. It has bonjour support. It also lets you override the buddy icon bonjour users set, something else iChat won't do, so you don't have to stare at your kid's spongebob squarepants icon all day long.

    any resolve to this.
i have 2 mini's running side by side. there are 2 managed accounts on each, all ran fine until a week ago. no idea what changed, but now only 1 of those accounts won't allow bonjour access for ichat, the rest still work fine. i turn off parental controls and it works fine. help please, i need my kids to be managed, and this particular child loves nothing more then chatting with her daddy on the computer (kids find the weirdest things intriguing).

For some reason this does not work in Parental Controls and we have no fix for it yet.

Anyone else with a word on this. I've two iMacs and a MacPro. Even though the parental controls do not limit iChat in the preferences settings, Bonjour will will not work....
    Thanks

    Adding my pleas as well...
I have two accounts on my kids' MB. When logged into the admin account, Bonjour loads up fine. However, it's not even an option to log on under the kids' account.

I've even taken the Parental Controls totally off, but the Bonjour account still won't enable. I don't suppose there's been a fix yet? My kids and I have talked more via YIM than we have ever talked face to face (before the days of IM) I'd like for them to just have 'our home" to chat with, and leave the "outside' messengers along. Maybe one day...

Adium is indeed great. The problem is that it does not have any video support.

    Hi

I believe there is a MeBeam plugin you can use with Adium.
