After upgrading to Bootcamp 2.1, Aero no longer works in my Windows Vista 32 bit install. I have refreshed the 'Windows Experience' indicator multiple times, and it gives me a base read of 4.8 (5.9 for Aero compatability), which is more than Aero-capable, and Aero worked prior to the upgrade. I checked hardware manager, and my graphics card has been detected properly with the January 2008 drivers. When I go to select Aero in the control panel, it simply isn't listed. Any idea what's up? Thanks for the help.

More information about the current situation in case this helps...

Roll back graphics driver to previous version?

I would, but I don't know where to find a copy of the current driver (in case the rollback doesn't solve the problem). Was the driver updated as part of the 2.1 update? I should have checked before upgrading to 2.1, but I didn't, so I don't know whether or not the driver is new.

Check properties in Device Manager. Anytime there is an upgrade, the older driver should show in "Previous."

I poked around properties and the nVidia control panel. The most information I was able to get does not have anything on older drivers...

Interestingly enough, the button to roll-back the driver is not selectable, so I guess there are no older drivers to roll-back to.

Any idea if newer drivers exist, or is this problem stemming from something other than the graphics drivers?

For further consideration, I updated the graphics drivers using laptopvideo2go.com, and while the drivers functioned without issues, Aero still is not enabled. I'm feeling that this focus on the graphics card isn't the right way to go. Any ideas about other things that could be causing Aero to malfunction?

Add me to the list of people experience the missing Aero effects. I'm running a Mac Pro / 10GB RAM / nVidia 8800GT. My overall score is 5.7. Not sure if this SP1 related or Bootcamp 2.1 related.

The score sounds normal, but why run 32-bit OS that only allows using 1.9GB on a Mac Pro w/ 10GB? you could run in Fusion!

And on Mac Pro, 175..16 drivers came out May 16th.

Well, if you have 2GB memory and SP1 along with BC 2.1, there isn't much else to do except drop back to BC 2.0, move to Vista 64-bit and add 2GB RAM or go back to pre-SP1 - so while I would think it is normally a result of low physical memory (1GB will cause trouble with Aero, and VRAM has to be subtracted from available RAM)

The only fixes are an EFI update; BC 2.2(?) or the above.

Maybe laptopvideo isn't SP1 compatible is only other variable I can think of.

I'm having the same issue - Aero isn't working. I thought it had to do with Fusion having a "lock" on a crashed run of my boot camp partition, but I don't think that is still the issue. I've seen in the event log that the DWM won't start properly because "operating system isn't genuine" so I updated that via Microsoft's site. Nothing.

    Any update on this?

Go to the Personalized settings and chose window Color and Appearance. I was having that trouble as well and I have a first gen macbook 1.83, and got it to work when I chose Appearance Properties. I reinstalled vista today after taking it of like 2 months ago and aero worked fine, and when I reinstalled today it didnt, but playing with those settings work. I hope that helps

What specific settings did you change to get Aero to work?

    I had this same problem.

In my case, after the bootcamp upgrade installed, Windows Vista "helpfully" decided that my display should be set to 16 bit color mode as its new default. There was no message that told me this, I found it quite accidentally.

Changing it back to 32 bit color mode re-enabled Aero support.
