I recently discovered that my old version of Google Earth — 3.1.0617.0, the last version that ran in Panther — no longer connects to GE's database, and when I try to open it I get a "Required Update" notice. This will finally provide the impetus for me to upgrade to Tiger or maybe even Leopard, both of which I've happily ignored so far. Panther has been a great OS, doing everything I needed or wanted it to, but I've realized for some time that eventually the system requirements of some application (or version of an application) I couldn't do without would probably force me to upgrade my OS. Google Earth is that app for me.TiBook 1GHz/1G/120G; PTProG3 500MHz/768M/160G, Mac OS X (10.3.x), film and flatbed scanners, projector, graphics tablet, laser and photo printers

I'm running google earth on panther right now. The current GE for panther is v 4.0.2736.0.
You can find it here:

EDIT: Ah, well. I downloaded and installed it, and it won't open.

Currently Being ModeratedMay 26, 2008 7:13 AM (in response to eww)After I trashed my old GE plists (in Home/Library/Preferences and Library/Preferences) and removed the entire GE folder from Home/Library/Application Support — including all my old favorite places — the newer version finally opens and is working.
I found that if I let the new version build its own replacements for those files and then manually replaced just the new My Places file with my old one, the app again failed to open. I couldn't bring my old My Places file into the new version. That will be a bitter pill for upgraders who have entered a lot of data into My Places in an older GE version.TiBook 1GHz/1G/120G; PTProG3 500MHz/768M/160G, Mac OS X (10.3.x), film and flatbed scanners, projector, graphics tablet, laser and photo printers
