Nice try, the iphone won't restore. Can't do a darn thing period. Don't you think most of us have tried that?! Even though it is considered a last resort, it's better than having no service whatsoever for hours on end.

In this day and age, most people rely on their cell phone, iphone or not. It is what it is.

Wrong. When my phone is ejected, it is bricked. I can only make emergency calls. I can't even look at my calendar to see my appointments for today. Congratulations Apple, on another botched rollout. I can't begin to express how annoying this is. I assume that we will all be compensated for this outrageous inconvenience.

Let's all make emergency calls & report that the iTunes Store is not responding. Do you think they could track us down??

I got the 2.0 software update installed and my phone is active, I can not hook my iPhone to my computer to sync video of music to it.

Yes. Absolutely. My biggest beef is that Apple is not admitting a problem. They are not owning up to the screw up. "It just works," eh? How about "It just screws up sometimes too." C'mon, Apple. Give an official statement already. Afraid to look like Microsoft? lol

Steve Job must understand that corporate users can not deal with a toy. Enterprise friendly, give every body a day off.

I am not sure what is the solution to this overload. They know at least 5 million people will be hitting the server today. They should have sent the 2.0 out at least a week before the new phone was out.

But I guess APPLE know best.

AT&T knows who to blame: "A spokesman for AT&T Inc., the exclusive carrier for the iPhone in the U.S., said there was a global problem with Apple Inc.'s iTunes software that prevented the phones from being fully activated in-store, as had been planned."

I also updated my iPhone to 2.0 and after all the restore, it is stuck at emergency call , iTunes says "Accessing iTunes Store...". No Answers from Apple Support and retails stores. I am stuck, Never thought that Apple can do this to their users. I was wrong that I used to blame Microsoft for their software but MS never put there users in such a horrible situation.

Is any one has a solution how can i restore the old backup, I only have one phone which now can be accessed for emergency calls only, thanks to APPLE.

What is a -4 error. That's what I'm getting in iTunes.

    - Restored to 1.1.4 iPhone
    - Phone is activated although not via iTunes....(maybe from previous unlocking...?)
    - iTunes claims "Accessing iTunes Store..."
    - then -4 Error

    Any idea?

well i am a bit understanding of the servers being down but i do think someone could have told us to wait on the 2.0 software if we dont want a brick for 2 hours, but i am STILL VERY ANGRY that there was no waterproofing application..... thats what i really need... oh well

Annoying yes, but outrageous inconvenience??? compensation?? Apologies my friend but perhaps you should put this in context. Its a mobile phone and it's out of action for a couple of hours, maybe a little longer. Pain in the butt?? Yes. But wow, we're lucky enough to have these expensive mobile phones, and computers to hook them up to and time to spend on forums like this chatting with others.

When you look at the bigger picture a couple of hours downtime is not the end of the world. We're not starving, homeless, working in sweatshops in a third world country, being persecuted for being one race/religion/ethnic group.

So please, cut the compensation talk - the next thing someone will want to sue Apple for the 'outrageous inconvenience' and this litigation driven society is the real 'outrage'

Worked for me too. I finally just started pressing the "m" key and then the "i" key. Press the m key and wait about 2 seconds and press the i key and wait about 20 seconds. I did this over and over for 30 MINUTES but it finally worked. Now everything is restored. I haven't been able to use email with the old iphone, now let's see if I can get that working properly with the exchange server. Be persistent, don't give up!

Sorry "accessing itunes store" is not about getting the apps but rather about activating your iPhone on new 2.0 software as the last step. The error is a "server too busy" error (read about it here). Only remedy is to wait.

I just left it plugged in, and went and did some other tasks. When I came back, the error message was there, but the phone was updated just fine.

Unplugging it over and over did not work for me.

I would suggest those trying to update just be patient, and those who have not, wait a day or two until this is resolved or not so busy.

    Good luck!
