I just registered as a new user and almost gave up. The screen where you have to agree to the user agreement, and set your alias, just came up repeatedly, with no indication of what the error was. After about a dozen tries I finally got it to work by leaving everything but the alias blank.

I don't care anymore since I got in, but someone from Apple ought to fix it. I'm sure a lot of people just give up!

Welcome to Discussions symmetric, glad you made it! There is usually a message in red that explains why the page is reloading, it must have been a software glitch, they have been known to occur

Thanks. I'm pretty sure there was nothing in red, put then I've been known to miss something because it was the biggest thing on the screen and my eyes just skipped over it:) Can't go back and check now though...

I had the same problem when I registered. After several tries I finally got registered. The only thing I changed was the alias I was trying to register, so I suspect that the alias might have been taken.

You are right, I hope one of the Moderators takes notice of this thread and at least get an error message to come up telling you what the problem is.

I am running into the same problem trying to log into my Discussions account. I can get in fine using Firefox (obviously, as I am able to write this) but in Safari I keep getting kicked back to that annoying Create New User Account page. What the **** is going on?

I had the same problem as well. My solution was also to change the alias I was using. I'm wondering if my old alias was still in the system from years ago and causing the problem. I haven't posted in discussions for quite some time, and when I was asked to create my user profile (and agree to the user agreement), I used all my old information (since it hasn't changed). As you can see, I have a fairly unique alias (to which I had to add a "2" to get past that recurring first screen.

There were no red indicators of any problem. Thanks to you all for posting this thread - it was how I thought to change the alias!

As far as I know, old aliases are never purged.

I had the same problem and couldn't get back on this discussion board for ages. I finally added a "2" to my old username after reading ricuos2's post -- so thanks!

Had the same problem. First, my entire Apple ID account, which I've been using for over 5 years, was for some reason deleted . Not really inspiring confidence...I wonder if my credit card and personal information is being handled with the same care. Anyway, yes there is a bug in the discussions account creation page. There is no indication of the error either in Safari or Firefox, and it was the alias that kept kicking it back to the account creation page. The alias I was trying to use was my old one so it thinks it's still taken, even though my old Apple account no longer exists (or is accessible).
