Thanks Ivan. That solution works a treat for me too.
I hope this problem is corrected in future iTunes 'upgrades', as it is a pretty clumsy, "band aid" solution to allow an application to operate outside of virus protection. Someone will eventually find a way to exploit that back door!

I really hope so. I am dying to get new music on my iPod. I tried installing an older version of itunes, and got it to work with a copy of the library ini file I hade inexplicably backed up several months ago. It didn't work very well, though. It still froze, and I restored back to 7.7 for the time being, but even using the original .ini file, a good deal of my purchases are missing in iTunes, and re-adding them using "Add Folder to Library" just causes the program to freeze.Dell Inspiron E1705, Windows Vista, Home Premium
I'm also having problems with itunes crashing when my 80GB classic is plugged in. They both work fine until you try to sync, then itunes crashes after about 1 minute of syncing. Nothing's updated though.
You'd think a company the size of Apple would be able to release cross platform bug free updates. I mean M$ manage it a reasonable percentage of the time these days...Windows XP Pro
