OK, Finished setting up my personal settings and stuff, now I'm installing all apps and syncing selected music and pictures. This should be EXACTLY like buying a new (older model iPhone) and syncing it with iTunes for the first time out of the box...
I decided to sync EVERYTHING (Apps, Music, Pictures) this time after setting it up as new because technically, this is the way it should be done the very first time.
If it doesn't work this time, there is a SERIOUS problem here. And, keep in mind, the darn thing worked fine up until the 2.0.2 update. Maybe an app would crash or something, but no Restores up until now. I'm kinda getting the hang of this!
Almost done with 6th Restore in 2 Days.
Check that out!!
In the mean time... stop updating or adding new apps from the iphone. I have had good luck by updating or installing new software through my computer on itunes. Good Luck!
I was really hoping that I wouldn't have to bring it in. I've only had it for just 6 months, so I'm not worried about Warranty issues or anything. It's just frustrating to know that this is an issue with the 2.0.1 (2.0.0 ???) Upgrade, and not the phone. It was working perfectly fine before all of this, and for the most part since 2.0.1 as well; maybe a few apps would crash every three days or so...
I've tried everything else I can think of, I'm not sure what any of the Apple Geniuses would be able to do. How many times can you restore the phone, though, you know? And another thing, say it DOES need to be replaced? Would they replace it with an original iPhone 2G or with a new 3G model seeing as though they don't make the earlier any longer?
I've actually read about that as well. Unfortunately, he doesn't make any mention of why the entire iPhone crashes, only that a fix is coming to resolve an issue with the APPLICATIONS Crashing. If I have to wait until the end of October to get 2.0.3, I'm going to be a very unhappy camper. And, how many people are really affected by this? I'm sure the number has to be WAAAAYYY up there... They gave me extra time for my MobileMe account when that was all messed up. What are they going to do about this phone fiasco?
OK, So, after my SIXTH RESTORE in 2 days, and this time setting it up as a new phone and then installing everything and syncing all of my music and pictures... The Backup Worked! There was an Update to Solitaire available after the Backup finished and I installed it. That Worked, Too! Praise Be! So, Now I at least have a working backup to restore from in case anything happens, assuming the Restore will work...
So, there's your solution. Restore your iPhone a bunch of times. 6, to be exact. Just make sure that on the sixth time you set it up as a new phone and configure everything from scratch.
Yeah, that was sarcasm. It IS working, though. Does anyone else have any ideas???
At this point, I'd be heading to the Apple store for an exchange and see if the problem happens on the new phone. My iPhone kept locking up several times and after 2 firmware updates and several restores, I had enough and exchanged it. No problems since then and I couldn't be happier...for now.
Your mileage may vary.
Yeah. I had to do a SEVENTH Restore. Check this thread out:
Why should I go to an Apple Store to have one of them restore my iPhone to it's original state just so I can come home and put my music and apps on it and be right where I was before visiting said Apple store? I know how to restore the firmware. There isn't anything physically wrong with the phone. If there was, ALL of the people posting on these forums would have tried getting their phone replaced due to a software issue. When the problem is determined that it is software related, replacing the hardware becomes a non issue and is treated as such. And, like I said, almost anyone can reload the firmware. I can do that in the comfort of my home. At least Apple gives me the freedom to do that!
But, even if I don't load any apps onto the phone, it still doesn't show any of my songs! I've tried a number of things postes on these forums and nothing has worked at all. The only apps that will work are the ones on the phone when it is in it's original state. No Cro-Mag Racing or Poker for me. Just my trusty calculator. At least my contacts are still syncing across... Now if I would actually be able to see their birthdays in my calendar, THAT might be of use as well... Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!!!!!!!!
I recently got the Genius Bar to replace my iPhone after I had to restore it 5 or 6 times, including setting it up completely from scratch twice, all in the space of a week.
Every time the stuck-in-boot happened was while I was installing an app directly on the phone.
The new phone just had this problem, but it had nothing to do with installing apps on the phone. I did that earlier today, and it worked fine. This time it happened while (or after) just doing a normal sync in iTunes. I told it to sync before I went to bed, and woke up to the Apple logo and a very hot phone (with a dead battery pretty much, even though it's plugged in).
So at this point, while I'm tempted to go get this phone replaced too, I think it's probably a software problem and nothing will actually fix it until Apple fixes it.
