Sep 7, 2008 12:42 AM in response to yksoft1by Nadav,Hi,
Tried that and it still locks up. I guess I am just better off running in native mode where I know that OS 9.2.2 will work and not even bother with 9.0.4. Besides, when I remember only using OS 9 back in 1999-2000, it didn't even lock up that much on me. -
Sep 7, 2008 3:39 AM in response to Nadavby japamac,Using OS 9 with extensions off disables DVD acceleration and Video aceleration extensions. These extensions are needed to view video in OS 9.
These extensions are supported by OS 9 compatible AGP cards.
The 9600 is not an OS 9 compatible graphics card. So, when one says minimal OS 9.2.2 video support, does one mean that the card, though not fully supported under OS 9.2.2 can't be used for say, watching a movie?
I would say this is correct. In my system tests, neither a flashed 9800 Pro or Geforce 6800 GT are able to run DVD player, either due to unsupported display resolution, or due to unsupported graphics card. Which of the two, I have yet to determine.
However, DVD player launch is fine, and there is no system freeze with either card. Both cards are known to be supported in OS 9, though without 2D/3D acceleration.
The 9600 is one card that is always listed as not being supported in OS 9.
If one is going to use OS 9 for other than basic computing; i.e. graphics/video entertainment, one should use only an OEM Mac graphics card that is from within the same era of the host machine. -
Oct 10, 2008 8:30 PM in response to Nadavby DANADAX,The apple forum will not help you with this answer, because not many apple users go the emulation route. You would've been better off asking an emulation forum.
Luckily, though, I have the answer.
Sheepshaver ONLY runs up to OS 9.0.4. The reason: Sheepshaver does not emulate MMU (a feature found in later versions of OS 9) because it would slow down the emulation speed.
Please read up on an emulator before you try to use it.
