Currently Being ModeratedSep 9, 2008 3:05 AM (in response to pmonahan)I tried installing only from itunes, it don't work the problem came again.
I'd the same problem and find a REAL solution for it.
In fact the system partition of the IPhone was full of files.
When you install application, it goes in the data partition except for fonts file.
When you uninstall apps, some of them don't clean fonts.
Half space of my 500M system partition was for
* Fonts 110M
* TextInput 130M
I migrate theses folder in data partition and made symbolic link to it.
Now i can install as many app from appstroe as i want.
I can't tell you to do the same where but i hope it will help Apple to fix the issue in a future update.IPhone, Windows XP
Currently Being ModeratedSep 9, 2008 7:36 AM (in response to pmonahan)Just tried syncing again for my first time since the uninstall/deauthorize/authorize/reinstall over the weekend that seemed to fix the problem. Bad move. iPhone is dumping out of 3rd party apps again after about a second. I'm redoing the "fix" again - which will take a few more wasted hours to complete - and hopefully it will work again, after which I'll only be charging the "phone" via the wall charger.
I'm still within my return period and am seriously considering returning it, getting an iTouch and a real phone with good service from Verizon. This is ridiculous, and a huge waste of time. Apple's done a great job of alienating good customers with this debacle, seemingly without any consideration of what the cost of these delays is to consumers. If you're interested, there's a timely post addresses that aspect today at http://sethgodin.typepad.com/seths_blog/2008/09/time.htmliMac 24" G5, PowerBook G4, iPhone

Currently Being ModeratedSep 9, 2008 10:23 AM (in response to pmonahan)My iPhone 3g had problems with "slowness" that were helped by the 2.0.1 and 2.0.2 update. Things still aren't as zippy as my original iPhone with 1.1.4, but I get by.
I had heard about the apps failing to launch problem a bunch because I read the mac web on a daily basis.
I had about 40 paid and free apps and they all were working fine for over a month. Then last week during a routine update in iTunes, everything broke. None of my apps were working, and all of my media disappeared. I am running the latest version of iTunes and OSX.
I consulted the mac web, including this discussion and found little resolution.
As of today, my apps work and my media are back.
1.) Changed sync settings and removed apps little used or without important data. (I would have erased them all, but some had data I wanted to keep.)
2.) Ignored the problem over the weekend and had no app access. (Son complained about the absence of Shazam .)
3.) Some of my music reappeared over the weekend, but about 3/4 of the songs from iTunes store wouldn't play. MP3's and MP4 movies from handbrake worked fine.
4.) Downloaded a new app from iTunes store and synced.
5.) Deleted all music from iPhone, changed settings from manual to sync select playlist. Selected playlists and synced.
6.) As of last night, all of my music, movies and apps are working on my iPhone 3G. This includes apps that were never deleted from my phone.
7.) I have not yet reinstalled all of my apps. I did not delete apps off my mac.
Conclusion: I believe the problem is an authentication problem with the security system employed for apps and itunes media. I believe apple fixed the problem over the weekend.
Even though I took the above actions, I don't believe they had anything to do with the problem being resolved. On Sunday, no apps worked. On Monday PM they all did.
Thanks steve and co. Sorry I was so impatient.iPhone 3G 16gb OSX 2.0.2, Mac Mini Core2 2ghz 4gb, Mac OS X (10.5.4)
Currently Being ModeratedSep 9, 2008 10:34 AM (in response to mrfezzywig)Thankyou?
I still don't know if problem is resolved... and there is no new release of iTunes yet (just checked)...so I am very leary of sync and/or purchase of new applications until thousands of people say from experience that their own problem is resolved...as there will not, probably, be an official acknowledgment of the problem or its resolution (certainly not on this discussion board) ...
so all of you adventurous types please post your success (or even more importantly lack of success) here... this so those of us less willing to jump to "Thankyou" will get enough evidence to enter the waters again.iPHone
Currently Being ModeratedSep 9, 2008 10:42 AM (in response to phoenixdigital)This doesn't work in all cases... read all 500 posts to see that most suggestions for what works one time doesn't work everytime and may not work a second time for the same user.
Mine is working now, but after the many false "fixes" I can't rely on it being fact that a single thing I did resulted in recovery.
I am no longer purchasing apps nor using the sync facilty (will have to restore from old backup if unthinkable happens - but given problems I don't want to take chance that a sync that causes problems gives a reliable backup).
We need word from hundreds or thousands of people here that ONE thing has resolved the problem for all of them -- or word from Apple themselves.iPHone
Currently Being ModeratedSep 9, 2008 10:51 AM (in response to pmonahan)my apps stopped working this morning. I followed all of the trouble-shooting tips from the support website, but to no avail. I called tech support and the guy i spoke to had no solution. Before i could even finish describing my problem he directed me to this forum and made the assessment the everyone was having trouble with the apps. He surmised that it was a software issue, i.e. the current iPhone software doesn't support apps. According to him, we're all just to wait until an update happens. LAME.iMac, Mac OS X (10.5.4)

Currently Being ModeratedSep 9, 2008 12:20 PM (in response to pmonahan)Following up again, I tried the unsync apps/unauthorize/reauthorize/resync apps "fix" again, this time it didn't work. Tech support just told me he's had 4 calls just today about this, but it wasn't something that's showing up as a hot topic for them. Senior Product Specialist told me this is an issue that should be addressed in Friday's update.iMac 24" G5, PowerBook G4, iPhone
Currently Being ModeratedSep 9, 2008 1:13 PM (in response to ppcx)I wanted to update my status since my August 26 post when I detailed my downgrading of 7.7.1 to 7.7 on my Mac.
My NMAC on both my iPhone 3G and iPod touch occurred on version 2.0, not 2.0.1 or 2.0.2. I did upgrade the software to 2.0.2 with a DFU as part of my recovery steps. I also wiped out iTunes 7.7.1 and installed iTunes 7.7.
Since that time I have not had a problem. I sync my phone daily (I sync daily podcasts that I listen to during the day). I don't have as many apps installed as I had before -- it is nice that backups don't take as long because of that. I have probably 2.5 screens of apps in addition to the ones that come with the phone.G4/533, Mac OS X (10.5.4), also MBP 2.4 10.5.4, itouch, iPhone 3G
