Exactly the same thing with me. I spoke to an Apple Genius when on the road where this first occurred with my laptop. After a half-hour of trying to troubleshoot, he got a hold of an Apple engineer contact and they confirmed there is a serious bug with the latest RAW update and how it works with Aperture. Apparently it can also cause Image Capture to hang.

So is there any solution other than waiting for a software update?

This might work (from Clem who figured it out):

Delete the file: System/Library/CoreServices/RawCamera.bundle then (re)install the previous version.

    Get the previous version here:

    http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/digitalcamerarawcompatibilityupdate21.htm l

    Restart your computer.

Aristophanes - I tried this fix and it worked on my iMac. I am not updating the MBP until this is resolved by Apple properly.

Thanks for pointing me in the right direction.

jeremyw - Did this help you? Or are you still having problems importing images? What kind of import are you doing when you see the hang? Are you importing from a camera? or from a hard drive?

I'm having the same problem, not sure if it's the update or a mistake this morning and started to impost the complete desktop into Aperture library, forced quit to stop this and can't get Aperture running since. I'll try the above tip and let you know if it works. D

I've done this, but my Aperture is now borked. Just hangs on load up

When you start Aperture, hold down the alt and apple key, you will be prompted to either create a new library or rebuild the existing one. Rebuild your library (this can take some time). I tried this and it worked for me.

I'm having a similar problem. I resolved by copying images from CF card, then imported from folder on computer rather than from HD. That worked. At least I know it's a bug, I though my card was corrupt.

    I wrote that incorrectly.
I copied images from memory card to a folder on my computer. Then imported from the folder, rather than direct from memory card.

I too have had this problem, installing the previous RAW bundle worked for me.

I had the exact problem, click on the "import xx images" and it would hang-up instantly. I tried the above suggestion and it worked perfectly, having no problems since. Thanks.

Just to say, I found this solution worked for me to.

With Aperture not running, copy from the memory card to a folder on the hard drive, disconnect the memory card, start Aperture, import from the hard drive.

It's much more awkward, but it avoids messing with the software settings. Hopefully I won't have to do this workaround for long before we get a fix.

I had the red-screen, unsupported format with this update when I went to full-screen view. I came across the same recommendation in another link and replaced the update with v 2.1. I won't be updating again soon, either. Had promised myself not to do that and broke my own rule.
