Q: IPOD Volume

When an ITune playlist is played on a computer, ITunes adjusts the volume of each song so each song plays at the same volume. When put on the IPod which is connected to external speakers or a through a car radio the songs play at the volume of the original recording. One song will play softly and you will reach for the volume control and turn up the volume, the next song will blast your ear drums. I there a way to change the volumes of all the songs on a playlist to the same volume and save the change? If so I don't know how to do it! Help! Phil V.

In iTunes you likely have "SoundCheck" turned on. On the iPod you likely have it turned off. SoundCheck on the iPod will only work, though, if you use it in iTunes as iTunes assigns volume levels to tracks with sound check that the iPod's version then uses to try and adjust the volume.

In my own experience, while SoundCheck in iTunes works fairly well, it isn't so great on the iPod. I find that over all everything is a lot quieter but there is still a lot of range in the volume from track to track. Your mileage may vary of course.

    Cheers,
