Oct 7, 2008 8:26 PM in response to PATRICIO_NYby Allan Sampson,Is the Emergency call supposed to be only to call 911???
In a word, no, and I wouldn't want it to be for 911 only.
I witnessed a bad traffic accident recently that occurred directly in front of me on an expressway. I pulled over and tried calling 911 and there was no answer at that particular time. -
Oct 7, 2008 8:36 PM in response to Allan Sampsonby PATRICIO_NY,no, What I meant is on the emergency call screen on your phone when its locked and lets say you don't know the pass code for that phone and if you press emergency call button, then it takes you to the emergency call screen right??? from there my question was, is it supposed to be only to call 911, but as I say my phone can call any number the how secure is that???? if the phone is lock but anyway you can press the emergency call button and then call any number you want?? -

I know exactly what you meant and what your question is, and the answer is no.
You can call any number from the emergency call selection.
And as I already provided, I want it this way. If I was in dire straights and I was able to place a call and I can only dial 911 and there is no answer at that particular time or lines are busy (which can occur), I want the ability to dial any number, not just 911, and the same for anyone that is with me if I'm unable to place a call and my iPhone is the only cell phone available.
If my iPhone was lost or stolen, I would call AT&T first to have my iPhone's SIM card disabled. Someone that finds or steals my iPhone makes a few calls in the interim before my iPhone's SIM card is disabled by AT&T, so what? I have a calling plan and a rollover minutes credit. -
Oct 7, 2008 8:43 PM in response to Allan Sampsonby PATRICIO_NY,How about if that person makes an international call, saying you are able to make them?, then you will have to pay for those calls right? -
Oct 7, 2008 8:49 PM in response to PATRICIO_NYby Allan Sampson,Maybe, but a small price to pay IMO if 911 phone lines are swamped at the particular time I need to place an emergency call for myself, or for a loved one or for a friend. -
Oct 7, 2008 8:52 PM in response to PATRICIO_NYby DaVBMan,Guess you never tried other phones...you can call from other phones too that are in emergency use only mode. 911 is NOT universal. If you lose your phone, report it to deactivate, no biggie. The lock is more about protecting your privacy, nothing more. -
