My phone # on the address book on the iphone displays with no "dash" separating the area code, or the actual phone number so they will display as 1234567890 instead of 123-456-7890. I had been looking at the various settings on iphone and could not find it. I checked my macbook and the preference over there shows the numbers separated by dashes and the numbers on the address book is displayed correctly with the dashes. Would appreciate help in trying to get the settings correctly so that it will be easier to read. Thanks.

I have a new iPhone and I too am having a 'format/display' problem with phone numbers that I type into the keypad. I have double-checked the Settings/General/International/Region and it is set for Australia (where I am).

However, when I type in a number eg 98765432 it displays on the phone as 9 8765 432 - which is really offputting - it appears to be reading the initial digit as an area code, when I have not supplied one. Do I have to type in the area code every time? When I put in an area code, it recognises it and puts it into brackets at the start of the number.

Also, I just checked with a friend who also has an iPhone, and when he types in the same number (ie, without the area code), his iPhone displays it as 9876 5432.

Where else do I need to check?

    Thanks for any help
