Q: Rental Movies

I've read posts that state that movie rentals will not play on 5th generation ipods, but are there any plans to be able to update the software so that I can play movie rentals on my 5th generation ipod? This is kinda the point of having my ipod and buying all the equipment to connect it to our television, etc, so it's really disappointing that I can't play rented movies in this manner also. Or are there any "trade in" programs in which I can upgrade my 5th generation to an ipod touch or something similar that will work?

It's unlikely that there'll be any software updates at this stage to make the 5th Generation compatible with rentals. When new iPods are released they always have options that are not made available on earlier versions. If they'd wanted to (or if it was possible) then it would have happened when rentals first came along.

5th generation iPods can play PURCHASED movies just fine, so there is always that option.

Keep in mind that the iTunes movie rental service came out AFTER the 5th generation iPod were discontinued.

Appl retails stores will give you 10% for your old iPod when you purcahse a new iPod.
    This is to encourage recycling.
However, you would likely get more than the 10% by reselling it on eBay and such.
