Since upgrading to 2.2, the network activity "pinwheel" animation is always displayed when the Phone application is running. This occurs on WiFi and on EDGE (no 3G in my area), although the activity goes away when the EDGE does during a call; although the network activity animation comes back as soon as the call ends.

Normally that pinwheel shows up in the Phone app when it's updating your contacts list. I tried turning off the Contacts sync from my MobileMe account but that didn't make it go away. It will show up every time the Phone app is loaded, even in quick succession. The activity indicator goes away as soon as you return to the home screen.

I have an iPhone 3G with the 2.2 software update. Phone is setup to get Contacts, Calendars, and Bookmarks from MobileMe as well as mail from two IMAP accounts. Fetch schedule is set to 30 minutes.

Anyone else seen the same thing?
