...so it's an Apple thing. I never did get around to calling them, but I'll try and do it today. They must be aware of the situation - but you never know!

I just wanted to post and say that I too had this problem with Facebook and was also using Facebook IM through Adium. I've disabled the account in Adium and it looks like its fixed. I am using Safari 4 developer preview and OS X 10.5.6.

On a side note, I'm not sure if this is a new issue or not, but my "visited links" no longer turn purple (they stay blue). Is there a similar issue with the cache? All other aspects of the cache/history appear to be working.

I'm having the same problem, also since the 10.5.6 update.
Gmail and Facebook are impossible to use. Other sites, such as Twitter and Last.fm, forget my session even if I check the "Remember me" option.

    I have tried the following:
    - Reset Safari
    - Delete all the internet passwords from Keychain
    - Delete the Safari Autofill data from Keychain
    - Deleted all the cookies from the Preferences window (they were still there even after resetting Safari)

Remove any web clippings you have in Dashboard. When you open Dashboard and they load, cookies get reset.

I have no web clippings. I also reinstalled Safari and the problem is still there.

and, unfortunately, it's started happening again. This time a reinstall didn't work. Looks like Apple needs to fix this.

Looks like the issue is some change in how the cookies are handled between different clients by Cocoa's NSURLRequest.

It seems like different clients (Adium using Facebook plugin, Dashboard web clippings, Safari, probably Mail using RSS feeds, probably GMail notifier, etc) are clobbering each other's cookies when they run concurrently.

I am not sure why reinstalling Safari fixes it, but the fix doesn't last. For me, the problem came back a couple days after the reinstall.

Adium people have an idea as to how to fix it on their end using NSMutableURLRequest, though it will not fix the dashboard web clippings or any other app using NSURLRequest and running at the same time as Safari. Obviously, this is something that Apple needs to fix on their end.

    *Anyone at Apple listening??*

It started to happen to me again last night. I am curious, are you like me and keep the Mac running all the time? I am wondering if restarting plays into this at all. Re-installing Safari required a restart and after the reinstall it was working again --- for a while anyway. I decided to see if restarting made a difference here, so I restarted, and tested it out on Facebook. I had to log back in when first going there, but after that it was maintaining its session for the time I was there.

Yes, Apple really needs to fix this issue. If it is just a matter of restarting (still not sure if that is a factor or not), I will do it until there is a fix, but there needs to be a real fix for it.

    Cheers,
    Louis

i can get my yahoo mail but now i cannot open my yahoo business mail. 10.5.6 seems to be the culprit (or the mail part of it?).

all other browsers work just fine.

I tried re-installing, and I've tried deleting all my cookies. Nothing works and nothing sticks. I've just downloaded Camino and I'll try using that for a while. Safari is really basically unusable like this.

i'm also experiencing problems since the update - however I'm having trouble with Firefox as well as Safari. Just certain sites, GMail, my banking sites (which I desperately need!). Glad to spot this thread, I was blaming my ISP..are there any signs that Apple are going to do a fix? Can we revert back to 10.5.5?

I had this problem. Web Clippings on the Dashboard and Adium signing in to my FaceBook account were the cause for me. Remove all web clippings, disable your facebook or gmail accounts in adium and reinstall safari. Solved my issues. Will have to wait for a fix before i can use web clippings or facebook in adium.

I don't have any web clippings or use adium? My facebook works fine, but I can't get into any of the google add on's like gmail or maps or images. I'm more frustrated at not being able to get into my bank online, I'm lost without it. Again I've tried resetting my modem, and I've worked through a lot of the things suggested on here. Verifying permissions, changing proxies and DNS but none of it helps. My laptop is running on 10.5.6, but my iMac is stil 10.5.5 - it wont load up which is bizarre, nevertheless, it makes no difference, the sites I can't access are affected on both machines.

This problem is making me crazy. I funnel all my mail through gmail and cannot access it through safari any more. Have wasted too much time deleting, resetting and reinstalling. Hey Apple - where are you??!
