My son has managed to end up with two iTunes accounts. His purchases are now split between the two accounts but his iPod Touch will only sync one iTunes account. And much of his credit balance is split between the two accounts. Is there anyway to resolve this ? Perhaps by merging the accounts ?

Sadly, no. I've seen other posts from users asking for accounts to be merged.

He should be able to authorize one PC for 2 accounts and put both accounts purchases on the iPod. According to this article, an iPod can have content from up to 5 iTS accounts.

What happens if he signs out of one account and then back into the other? Can he play music from both accounts in itunes? If so, that means the PC authorization is OK.

Anyway - you can ask iTS support to merge them, but I don't think they will. At least I've never seen a post by anybody who came back and said they did it. Because each download has the account info embedded into it. I don't see how they could change that after you've gotten it. They'd need to pay royalties for a new download.
