I can't figure this out. I got an Epson Artisan 800 printer for Christmas and have been trying to get it to work correctly with Aperture. I made it as far as printing a regular 4x6 print, and that worked fine, but it refuses to print a borderless 4x6 print. This printer allows for loading 4x6 or 5x7 photo paper in an upper tray at the same time that large, plain or photo, paper is loaded in a lower tray. When I choose to print a regular 4x6 photo the results are as expected. When I change from 4x6 to 4x6 borderless, it ignores the 4x6 paper and prints the photo on the upper corner of the large paper in the lower tray instead.

iPhoto doesn't share this problem and it prints wonderful borderless prints on the 4x6 paper. It seems to me that if the mechanism for picking the tray works OK in iPhoto, it would work OK in Aperture too. Right now my work around is to export anything I want printed to 4x6 borderless to iPhoto. I think the quality of the print is even a little better in iPhoto as well.

I have been having the exact same problem - have you found a work-around?

    thanks, Don

Unfortunately, the only work-around I've been able to use is to open iPhoto and, using the "File->Show Aperture Library," import the file I want to print into iPhoto and then print from there.

I still find it odd that two Apple photo storage applications support the same printer so differently. I've also been able to easily get borderless 4x6 prints out of Google's Picasa.

    Kenneth,
I haven't gotten that far. I can't get Aperture to print to the Artisan 800 at all. I can print from other applications, such as iPhoto, Safari, TextEdit, etc. But Aperture just won't print to the Artisan 800. Did you have to do anything special to get it to work? I didn't have any trouble with printing from Aperture to my Epson PictureMate, but I can't get anything to come out. I occasionally will see an error message flash on the printer's screen, but it never begins its start-up cycle. When I print from other applications, I will get a window showing the ink levels in the Artisan 800. I don't get that when I print from Aperture. I've called the Epson support line several times, but all they can do is have me confirm that I can print from other applications. They suggested I call Apple.

So, any help you could give me would be greatly appreciated.

    Bruce,
No, I didn't do a single thing differently for Aperture than I did to print from all the other applications. All I did was install the software (drivers, etc.) that came on the CD. I did not connect my computer via USB, I used the wired ethernet connection. I do get the ink level window in Aperture as well.

It's odd that it wont print from Aperture at all while it does print from other applications. That just reinforces the theory that Aperture printing is somehow different from all other application printing in OS X. Sounds like you may have to adopt my print-from-iphoto workaround.

    Kenneth,
When you were trying to print borderless prints, did you set the Border Options slider to zero in the Print dialogue box in Aperture? I noticed that it was not set at zero (0) when I selected "4 x 6 in (Borderless) (Photo Tray) for the Artisan 800 printer.

I still haven't been able to print the calibration image (or any other one) from Aperture.

Yeah, I did slide the slider and it actually does try to print a borderless 4 x 6 print, it just does it in the corner of the 8.5 x 11 paper in the wrong tray!
