I've been working with FCE HD for a while now, but this has just happened to me. When I click on the project to start, FCE seems like its about to start up, but then nothing happens. I can see the icon bouncing up and down on the dock, but then it just stops and nothing happens. How can I open my FCE projects. Please Help...Thank You for any solutions.

Try opening FCE from your applications folder.
    Dock icons can get corrupted.

You did not say which version you are using.
I'd check Software update from Apple and see if there are any updates for your version.
It might be a good time to repair permissions and trash your FCE Preferences then reboot.

The same thing was happening with me, although, I haven't really started doing much in FCE because I'm still in the learning process, but, I couldn't open the application anywhere on the computer. I ended up going to troubleshooting basics and deleted user preferences in FCE, and now it is opening and back to it's set up place. It did say that it would not impact project files by doing this.

    1. in finder/ go to /library/preferences
    2. Remove the "com.apple.finalcutexpress.plist" file from the preferences folder
    3. remove the "final cute express user data" folder from the preferences folder

    that was it.

On my iMac it's in user/library/preferences/ByHost

I had to open the folder "ByHost" and found it there, slightly different name:
    com.apple.FinalCutExpress.PreferredEffects.thena_very_longnumber.plist
But on a different account on the same workstation, no ByHost folder.

Stay out of that folder. You don't need to touch anything in there.

I'm having the same problem. This doesn't seem to fix it. I installed Final Cut Express HD on my laptop when i bought it just a few weeks ago. It worked once, and now it won't finish loading.

I looked in the Preferences folder, but did not see the files listed in "mads21" post.

Any other suggestions as to why FCP won't load on my new computer? All updates have been installed.

    Thanks.

Same problem with a iMac G5 PowerPC 2GB ram 1.8 Mhz so all specs say it should run.
I even asked the Apple Store employee if this would run on a iMac G5.

    Hey Apple Now what.
I've done everything stated to do.
    Still no good.

What version of the software are you using? What happens when you try to launch the application? Have you ever run the application?

Apple doesn't read posts in forum.

I read that you run 10.5.1, if it's true, I strongly recommend the 10.5.6 combo update. Search iMac G5 and Mac OS X 10.5 forums to see if there is an issue with your mac model/configuration.

I also had the same problem after purchesing FCE and using it for a few hours and then finding I needed to upgade to the newer version 4.01. However something went wrong during the update and I coulden't open the application afterwards. After a two hour sesion with apple support the verdict was a corrupt OSX.4.11. After making a clon of the OS I formatted the HD and did a new installation of OSX.5.6, after that FCE worked again.
