I would like to know if anyone has got Front Row working with a Mac Pro? I just got a Universal Dock which has a IR port on it and wondered if I could use the IR port with the Apple Remote and Front Row?

Thanks

Mac Pro, Mac OS X (10.4.8)

Front Row is not installed on Mac Pros. Next year, when Front Row is included in the next version of Mac OS X (10.5 "Leopard") it may work. But until it's released we don't know what its capabilities are.

I was just sold a universal dock (with IR receiver) and Apple remote and was told it would work if I downloaded Front Row. I have tried but it just keeps saying that the minimum requirement is a built in IR receiver. Have I been mis sold this or am I doing something wrong?

There is a way to get Front Row to launch on the Pro. It's already installed. Just that it will not launch. It doesn't launch as it does not see the IR receiver it expects. There's articles 'out there' on the web on how to edit the plist files to get it done. Pretty simple really.

Front Row is NOT available as a download. If it wasn't included with your computer it's software piracy to download it and install it on your computer. It may be possible, but I would hope any legitimate salesperson wouldn't suggest you steal software just to make a sale.

As I mentioned, Front Row will be available for everyone when Apple releases Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard) next year. But, until it is released we don't know what hardware will be supported to remote control it.

So, we all know that you can run front row with your mighty mouse, but does anyone know how to program your universal dock(dictated by the apple remote of course) to act as a mouse to run front row?

Or is the IR wiring just localized to the dock itself and would not send a signal from the IR receiver through the USB port?

With OS X 10.5 Front row is available for the Mac Pro. However there is still no way to control it by remote.
